2014 Silverado Double Cab Opinions

Is this your truck? Looks nice. I like the little Chevy emblem on the radiator shroud.

I don't think it is a big secret that I am GM guy.

My 21 yr old daughter drove it this evening. Wasn't sure she was going to give me the keys back! The cabin is super quiet. The V6 has plenty of get up and go on the low end. If this truck proves to be reliable, I think I am gonna enjoy it for a long time to come. Just hope GM has the DI thing down-pat now....I sure invested plenty of my tax $$ to give them the chance to get it right...

I'd use a good dexos approved oil, and change it per the OLM (maybe a little early at 10%), and not worry.

Of course, you could always have the dealer change it while you're under warranty, just to be sure.

This is likely what I will get to replace my 2004 Silverado when the time comes... except I'll probably get a base level Sierra.

its about time chevy did something with that dog of a 4.3 that should have only pulled donkeys or weighed down boats.

Thanks guys. GM trucks come with 2 yrs of oil changes and '24 point checks'

With a possible early 1st oil change in mind, I asked what the rule is about when I could come in for an oil change. Answer: no more than 20% OLM remaining. I didn't think to ask about the brand and certs for their house oil, but I will be sure to do that before bringing in for changes. If I don't like their house oil, then I suppose I could just bring my own and use their free labor.

My old style 4.3 will still be pulling donkeys long after that new 4.3 has died.

The pic that shows part of a front tire and fender well was my feeble attempt to show Chevy's new sound-reducing fender well. It is, as best I can describe, a tightly packed felt-like material. It is supposed to help absorb sound and, I think, reduce noise from water spray off of the tires. My trim level only has it on the front. But, higher trim levels have it on the back also. From what I have read, it is not as hard to clean as it may seem. (?). The cab is really quiet and the ride quality, at least for me, strikes a very nice balance....bumps are absorbed nicely, but yet it has enough firmness to provide an impressive level of handling (in my amateur opinion).
Sorry about the poor pic quality....it is a lousy weather day to try to take pics.

Those things do an excellent job of rusting fenderwells out.

Then I'd be rolling on to the dealer's lot with it at 19%...

I had meant to keep an eye on this thread and forgot. Congratulations on the new truck. You and I have similar taste in trucks. I almost always buy the WT with the appearance group. Did you end up with the G80 option? That fender fur is plastic and the backing is compacted hard so it is unlikely to produce any more rust than the plastic liners used for the last few decades. They are easier to clean believe it or not.

By the way there is no rule I am aware of as to when you can use the free maintenance. We have been told GM will pay for four in the first two years or 24000 miles and they don’t much care when you use them but once you have they are gone. I had my wife’s changed three times thus far, the first time at 2000 miles and each time after that at well over 35%.

No doubt. It was great motor. Just time for something new.

Change for the sake of change is not always right. I'll wait 5 years until the bugs are out. Not gonna be there beta test again.

I see your point, but to be fair, this isn't change for the sake of change. It's change for the sake of improved power, torque, and efficiency - certainly worthwhile reasons.

Everyone said the same thing when port fuel injection came out!

These motors are really more evolutionary than revolutionary. DI is the real change, and with it being used around the world in dozens of makes it isn't going away...

DI, VVT, DUAL overhead cams. Cylinder deactivation, electric steering. Lighter frame, aluminum suspension. Game changer.

Think its going to last 250k miles for under $20000 like my old silverado that gets 23mpg already. Right....

I ain't gonna waste 30k plus on a truck that can't make 150k plus miles. MAYBE in 5 years when they get it right.

It's a pushrod motor, no DOHC. And the VVT has already been out for many years, nothing new there either.

Our service vans have had forged aluminum lower control arms since 04, and they are proven outrageously stronger than the old steel parts.

Cylinder deactivation hasn't been an issue in our fleet of Silverados and vans...
