Not to mention on our 6 we get 28-29MPG with mixed driving. more, city than hwy. I get about 400 miles a tank on it each fill up. I am sure 500 could be doable with HWY only.

Perfect gearing. 1st gear is short enough that you don't have to slip the clutch to take off. 6th gear is perfect for cruising.

Perfect spacing between gears. Never felt like I had to over rev the engine to avoid lugging after shifting.

Perfect shift feel - engaged the next gear solidly (no mushy feeling), throw was a good length.

Perfect weight on the clutch!

The Skyactiv engine with it's higher compression ratio and VVT does a nice job of getting out of its way at lower RPMs.

Fairly good analysis. I'm able to drive mine and keep the RPMs between 1500 and 2000 through all the gears up to highway speeds. I kinda wish 6th was just a tad taller but that is nit picking. It never struggles on hills in 6th gear with its current gearing even fully loaded.

For the current 2.0l?

I'm questioning whether that will happen at this point. I know it's been talked about. Less than 5% buy MT's.

On the bright side, the new AT with and without the paddle shifters is a great AT.

That's what I've heard- I'm just a reactionary old coot who likes cars with three pedals.

I agree, though, the take-off, which is the only part of the shift pattern handled by the torque converter, is somewhat lethargic when the A/C is on. The downshifts are deft and the efficiency can't be beat. This is one vehicle which, according to EPA ratings, has the automatic beating the manual on fuel economy.

That is because MTXs are only offered on packages w/ limited options. The nice packages don't have the MTX to choose from. Mazda said they will start offering the MTX in the nice trims. If it happens, I'm sure you'll see sales increase, but probably not drastically.

I was talking to someone from Mazda in Canada and this person confirmed for me that the 2.5L will be available in the fall with a 6spd MT. FYI. That's good news.

Ford better get on the ball and make some improvements to the Focus. 160hp and 5-speeds is no longer going to cut it in this segment.

They already do, if you want a Sport or Touring level Mazda 6.

I know that combination is available on the 6, but I like the smaller and lighter 3 hatch.

I agree with you that it would be nice to have that engine transmission combination in the Mazda 3. Heck, it's the combination I want in the CX-5.

Chances are the Mazda 3 will get the manual with the 2.5 long before the CX-5 will.

FWIW, we are on our 4th Mazda and looking at a 5th. I started with an 07 Mazda 3 GT with the 2.3, then to an 06 MX5 GT, now have a 2010 Mazda 3 GT trim fully loaded with every single option that came that year. Bought it as a 3 yr old lease turn in. Incredible value when buying as a CPO. We also have a 2012 Mazda 2. Another car thats incredible to drive for what it is in its class.
I would buy their products again as long as they keep the hits coming. Torn between a new 6 or new 3 hatch with the 2.5.

This is what I am interested in. Will the plain old 4 door get it? I dont want to have to buy a top trim to get this. Please tell me I am not dreaming.

I finally went and looked at one. Dealer had a zillion and not a single manual on the lot. Very nice car for the segment and the money imo. I really liked it for an econobox. Didnt drive one because the dealer had no manuals and that would have been a waste of time for me because I am not shelling out 1 grand for an auto.

I want to try one, but as I've said before, I'll probably wait for the rumored 2016 Mazdaspeed 3(too much horsepower is just enough).

That's right. If it doesn't get a bit squirrely under full throttle then it needs more power!

If it doesn't tell you that it's going to kill you before the day is over when you first fire it up, it's not enough.
