Ok, I got a 08 Nissan Navara with a 2.5L turbo diesel 4x4 auto for my lads first car. Got it off my dad, who is pretty frugal, now in his 80's.
Anyway it was due for an oil change @ 2019 and about 30,000 km ago! mostly long country runs (good onya dad! he said it could do with an oil change, FFS!). I have to say after dropping the oil, I have never seen as much soot in any oil change, I've ever done before! The oil funnel I used to pour the waste oil into a drum with was like I had emptied a black carbon printer cartridge into it!, thinned with diesel! The oil was about 1.5L over full, which I suspect was fuel dilution. I put in some mineral 15w40 SN/CF and have to buy a special tool to remove the oil filter.. which I suspect is plugged and is in permanent bypass!
It is being removed tomorrow and I will cut it open and share the findings.
The new oil went instantly black.
So my plan is this:
1) Change oil filter and run for about 500km
2) Change oil and filter @ 500km
3) Repeat twice, maybe out to 1000km and watch for improvements in oil colour?
After this I have some Castrol 15w 40 Ultraclean SN/CF ACEA A3/B3 which I can Put in, or do I continue with the Nulon 15w40 API SH, API SL, API SJ, API SG API CF?
I'm sort of feeling like the Castrol might be wasted if used too soon.
How long do you think this motor will take to clean out ?
