Read plastic screen. LOL
That sounds like a winner right from the get go. Not. I'm staying with Napa Gold and Platinum.

This is NOT a product recall, Advance has decided to stop selling Ultra and replace it with the Purolator filter. If your unhappy about it, I suggest writing Advance HQ

Thanks for the facts.

Went to AAP to dump oil and see if they had a red Puro to cut open... (nope)

Got 2 Ultras with a coupon....

Wasn't there a thread on here recently where an Ultra got a tear? I'll try to find it.

AAP should've waited until the Boss actually came out and their current sale is over, so that their next sale can include the Boss filters.

Yeah AAP is a "Purolator house" (Motorking's term), but they never carried the previous Purolator Synthetic

I think it was a cartridge.

When the Purolator Synthetic first hit the market, AAP DID carry them. This is where I first saw them in person. It must have been a slow, slow seller because they no longer carry them. Our local Meijer store carries them and for a little less than AAP sold them for.

True....http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/forums/ubbthreads.php/topics/3434977/1/Fram_Ultra_FAILURE

I am going to... This is nonsense. Let these two filters compete side by side and let the consumers make THEIR choice to which one they want to purchase. Not have AAP make it to where that decision cannot be made is really non sense.

Huh? All i asked is if something was wrong with the filters because of your use of the word "recall". Why would that suggest any unhappiness?

But you cleared it up with what I've placed in bold. I'm not touchy like others here where filters are concerned.

The decision to stop selling Ultras was AAP's, so if you don't like seeing the Ultra disappear from their selves then make a complaint comment to AAP. Or just buy them someplace else - easier option, as I'm sure AAP won't do anything from customer complaints.

So are the Ultra's going on Clearance like Driveworks? Great (Sarcastically) if they are I already have a ton of Driveworks, I still haven't used all the Blue Mountain filters from Lowes.

Just got done looking at Oil Filter Porn. The Red Purolators are sexy. The Boss is catchy. I don't like the small slats on the double center tube. looks like a Blue Mountain filter. They seem small and very restrictive. seeing what I saw I am not sold. I still prefer the Motorcraft 820S for the Fords and the Ultra for the Dodge. I ll use the Driveworks and Blue Mountains for Giveaway prices. I have a feeling they are not giving away any of these Purolators. I am betting big price increase and everyone will run back to that God forsaken Orange can of death.

What a misleading title. Recalled implies there was a quality problem, while this looks like it is simply a matter of Advance changing primary suppliers.

There is massive consolidation going on both in the parts manufacturing and parts sales ends of the aftermarket business. Everyone seems to be scrambling for scale and negotiating leverage. We will keep seeing changes like this.

Exactly my point.

In the grand scheme of things, it will have very little effect on AAP's bottom line. For oil change "specials", they will just sub the Ultra with something else and people will still buy it.

The only ones who will really be affected by his change are those who post here on BITOG, otherwise, it's business as usual.

God forsaken? Take time to actually learn about filtration!

Talked to my local hub AAP-manager is telling me he hasn't heard anything about this, so not sure if this might be regional?
