I have used valvoline atf+4 in my work 96 Plymouth Grand Voyager that leaks a little transmission fluid and has done this for about 40,000 miles. The van has about 220,000 on the original transmission and it still runs good but my distributor does not carry it anymore does anyone know where i can buy that (must be valvoline atf+4) I don't care that everyone thinks all atf+4 are the same i don't believe it and how many others have that many miles on a chrysler transmission? I won't use the one size fits all either. The only other one i use is the original mopar atf+4

If you can't find it at Napa...

You can get it at Summit Racing website, but if you don't have a brick and morter store the cost will be substantial with shipping and you might as well get the Mopar from the dealer.

Really though man, it's all the same.

What You Need to Know About ATF+4®

In response to marketplace demands and evolving vehicle technology, Chrysler Group LLC established a licensing program for its advanced synthetic Automatic Transmission Fluid, ATF+4® in 2005. This program allows ATF+4® to be made available at retail outlets and through independent repair facilities for Chrysler®, Jeep® and Dodge® vehicle automatic transmissions.

ATF+4® is a high performance, synthetic fluid which provides significant reduction in component wear, superior temperature performance, consistent shift quality, and exceptional friction modifying properties for automatic transmissions in Chrysler®, Jeep® and Dodge® vehicles. The durability of ATF+4® has been successfully proven through more than one million miles of testing in severe environments and an intensive validation process.

"Licensing our ATF+4® product allows the millions of Chrysler®, Jeep® and Dodge® owners with vehicles on the road to receive transmission fluid that is designed exactly for their vehicle," said Dennis Florkowski, former Chrysler Senior Specialist/Supervisor. "Using ATF+4® ensures a longer transmission life with regular servicing as described in the vehicle owner's manual."

ATF+4® is approved for use in older transmissions and is currently utilized in newer Chrysler®, Jeep® and Dodge® vehicles. The previous MOPAR ATF+3® formulation was discontinued in 2005, and ATF+4® is recommended for all transmissions filled with ATF+3®. ATF+4® is fully compatible with all transmission applications where ATF+®, ATF+2® and ATF+3® Automatic Transmission Fluids are specified. Only certified ATF+4® is recommended for service of Chrysler vehicles as where ATF+4® is specified in the owner’s manual. The use of automatic transmission fluids other than ATF+4®, including those claiming to be like ATF+4®, could result in lower levels of performance, jeopardize transmission life and void warranties.

The ATF+4® Automatic Transmission Fluid formulation is exclusive to Chrysler and ATF+4® is a registered trademark. The Center for Quality Assurance monitors and publishes licensed ATF+4® brands to assist consumers in making informed decisions when purchasing automatic transmission fluid for their Chrysler®, Jeep® and Dodge® vehicles.

auto zone stopped selling it.. As for all of the atf+4 being the exact same.. I don't care what they say it looks different and smells very different so it is different, my beliefs got me around 220,000 miles on an original 4 speed automatic in a 96 grand voyager and it still performs ok except for the leak and that will be fixed when its time for a rebuild. I like the van

I may just get the Mopar from the dealer we deal with for $5.08 a quart.

you can get it on Walmart.com, from a reseller named Zoro. charges $5 for Shipping, site to store not available.

and at least around here, they don't appear to carry it in store.

you can get it on Amazon, $34.66 for a case of 6, prime eligible(if you have prime)
Amazon.com: Valvoline ATF+4 Single Quart, Case of 6

if you were out this way,(MI,OH,IN,KY,IL,WI), Meijer Carries it... but that doesn't help you in jersey.

It's all the same.. I have 240k on a 94 GC and 208k on a Ply GV. Do a pan drop every 30-40k. Always use W/M ATF+4. Currently $4.77/qt. What's leaking on your trans, front pump housing gasket??

Indeed. With one additive supplier and with a group III base, it is all the same unless XHVI is used. Ashland could change its baseoil on each batch we would not know.

ok... i dont believe that but whatever... If its all exactly the same explain the color difference and the smell being totally different.. there has to be some difference. When i brought this exact topic up at one of our engine seminars directed at the mopar experts from the factory he got back to us on that and said to use the mopar brand because that is blended for chrysler he also said all the others are not the same they are blended to their spec's and use their license but they are blended in different places. So if you think it is all the same great but i don't believe it. If it looks different and smells different its different. I won't argue about this because it will go nowhere. Glad you have good luck with wal mart atf+4 I pay about the same for the mopar with my wholesale dealer discount i think i pay .31 more and i don't pay tax i have a tax number.

Really? All licensed ATF+4 is the same. Everything on that CQA list that 901 posted is the same.

You can find it at Walmart, Pep Boys, Napa, AAP, Autozone, O'R, etc.

FWIW, Napa's house brand is rebranded Valvoline.

I Don't believe that there has to be a difference somewhere why is the color different and why do certain ones smell so different?

They are all VERY similar, but they aren't identical. You can compare the specs to various ATF+4's and see that quite readily.

Your Chrysler dude was parroting what he's been told. He's a salesman.

If WM ATF+4 meets Chysler's spec, what else could you need? Have you sniffed WM ATF+4 before? If you think it smells different than the rest, your sniffer might be due for a rebuild.

Also if you can get Mopar fluid for $.31 more, what's the point of this thread?

Trust me the nose knows.. I called my brother who owned a trans shop for years and sold it about a year ago and he said the same thing as you do but his belief is all oil is oil and the cheapest is usually the best.. He always used great parts but the cheapest oil he could get. Im sorry i see a difference i am not a trans guy i only do engines but im sure its not exactly the same i believe there are a few places they blend it and a couple are out of the country. I don't believe all of them are exactly alike there has to be some difference. He did say when he rebuilds them sometimes he uses a multi vehicle atf which i would never do. Maybe i just like to stick with what i believe works. As for the Chrysler tech he claimed he talked to their fluid specialist it took him a while to get back to us. My brother also said that those transmissions adapt very well to changes that they are all electronic. Some even use max life but i would not. I get a great deal from that dealer we do all their heads and sometimes engines on used cars for them also, we treat them well. I will buy castrol,Mopar and super tech this week and look more closely. I see people on here love that super tech.

The thing about the Supertech is it's the cheapest, I believe approximately $4.40 per quart and meets Chryslers stringent spec. If it's on the list it's good to go.

I strongly feel it's a bad idea to use a multi vehicle fluid on fwd transmissions calling for atf+4, some of the larger RWD units are more forgiving to using dex/merc from my understanding.
