larger sized fl820 filter

i have a 5.4l e-150 van. was wondering if i could get a larger filter in and would i be getting any more benefit from doing it?
 
The bypass is a little higher. Benefits? Hard to say.

The FL820 is already a pretty decent sized filter. I don't see any benefit with a larger filter if you're already using a quality brand like Motorcraft or Purolator.
 
turf1: in your specific case, the only benefit you'd get from a larger than stock filter is if you either want to go a very long time between filter changes, or if your motor generates WAY more than normal insolubles and loads up your filters abnormally quickly.

On a motor in sound mechanical condition with anything approaching a reasonable OCI (like 10,000 miles or less), the Motorcraft FL820S is generally accepted to be an excellent filter, especially for the price. I'm sure a WIX/Napa Gold or a PureOne would be equally acceptable.
