Wheel Paint

On these I would remove as much of the original paint as possible but not the black E coat, scuff the E coat and remaining silver with red scotchbrite pads, use a self etching primer and top coat with VHT wheel paint.
You can spend a lot of time, use epoxy primers and epoxy paints but it gets expensive. Powder coating is best but not inexpensive, if it is worth it to you to have them perfect with a very durable finish that is the best route.
 
The reason why I ask is because there was a guy on YouTube that painted some Volkswagen wheels semi-gloss black using Dupli-Color engine enamel. I thought they turned out pretty good, but you be the judge.
Sure. How did it hold up 3, 5 years later? no argument for immediate results, but IME rattle cans are soft and don’t handle abrasives well. Wheels get beat up.
