They use bulk oil and you pay a lot but get cheap oil and potentially have a young low skilled person doing the oil change.

It also depends on the car. You can buy a 2015 Toyota and a 2015 BMW for about the same price. But one is going to cost you 5x as much to maintain and repair.

And small independents often are just as bad these days. Hard to find someone you trust. I've worked at four different auto parts stores in three different counties and Between those three locations, I can count on one hand the number of shops I would trust to work on my mom's car, and those shops vary in size from two people to national chains.
