It was overfull so it was definitely being topped up with something.

Put valvoline Synpower 75W90 in the front and rear axles of the Jeep. The fluid in the rear came out very dark brown and there was build up on the bearing caps. The vehicle is new to me with 120k on the clock.

Also changed the rear axle fluid on the Ford and installed a Mag-Hytek rear axle cover at the same time. Valvoline went into that one as well.

2012 Infiniti G37 Sedan, 2WD

Out: Factory fill @ 7,957 miles
In: Amsoil SVG 75W-90
1.5 quart fluid capacity

Picture of stuff that came off the drain plug magnet: http://i.imgur.com/gTN645H.jpg

I am glad I changed it this early! The fluid looked okay and pretty amber, but there were some metal shavings floating in the fluid (drained cold) and the magnet just looked horrendous.

2008 Saturn Oulook

Out: FF 75w90, 80,610 on the clock
In: Amsoil Severe Gear 75w90

Fluid was dark and very opaque. I'm glad I changed it when I did.
I ordered to much fluid. I may change it again in a year, just to completely flush out the old stuff. We'll see when I get there.

Shouldn't these sterling 10.25s have a magnet in the bottom of the pumpkin?

1997 MB E320. Almost 231,000 miles. Drain differential fluid, most likely factory fill since it looked horrible. Refill with 1.5 qts of Redline 75w90.

1972 Plymouth Fury III- 78.8k miles 8.75 axle

Out- presumed factory fill

In- 2qts VWB 80w-90 + 1/2 qt Service Pro 80w-90

2.5 quarts of the Millers CRX 75W-140 NT, non-limited slip, with 4 ounces of Motorcraft XL-3 FM additive.

The quietest, and smoothest stuff I've yet had in this axle!! (It even quelled most of the chronic coast/decel whine of my ring & pinion setup.

Split a gallon of Coastal 80 w 90 with maybe a 1/2 pint remaining topping off the 8.8 s in the Rat. The front axle weeps,so I should be checking it. Stupid cheap Ford with no drains, just a fill. When I base lined the cars, I refilled with Mobile 1 75 w 90.

It is common on many cars to remove the differential pan and gasket to drain the fluid, not just Ford.

Most of the pickup trucks I find with drain and fill plugs are from Japanese car companies.

There is an advantage to removing the differential pan. You can blast the gears with cleaner to remove the greatest amount of iron filings.
