I absolutely agree with the first sentence and half of the second.

Although, you may want to consider seceding from your new self-appointed monarch-in-chief and all of his executive orders!

Thank you for that info as I was totally unaware of this....so that would mean that we are not a country but a British colony. I must have missed that part at school but I can thank my lucky stars that I have the great one below us to educate us silly colonialists....really.

No kidding.

We are a separate and independent entity. Sure we were a colony,as were our southern neighbours however having lived in both countries I can say with all honesty I'd not trade my citizenship for an American one.

Only americans believe everyone wants to be them.
While the rest of the world tries to blow them up.

How we are controlled by the British is beyond me. Maybe 285 needs to spend more time in school.
Don't their schools still teach them Columbus founded the new world........
So much for schools teaching truth.

I really don't want this thread to turn into a US vs. Canada debate but in all fairness to our neighbors/neighbours we do have the advantage of many US networks & news media to keep us well informed of the daily happenings and politcal events in their country whereas in the US they are not exposed to anything Canadian.

The Queen (of Canada too), gave a very nice Christmas message all about reconciliation.

http://www.bbc.com/news/uk-30595544

Highlights for me were:

Quote:
In her speech, the head of state said [censored]'s example taught her to "respect and value all people of whatever faith or none"

And this was really really nice as well. As she is the Queen of the Commonwealth as well, she has genuine compassion for Africa:

Quote:
The Queen will mention how moved she was by those who treated victims of Ebola in Africa during her Christmas Day message.
Chris Williams, who works for South East Coast Ambulance Service, flew out to Freetown earlier this month as part of a team of volunteers.
He told the BBC he was "deeply touched" that the Queen recognised the work they are doing.

I was hoping to see below $20 to stock up again...

Haven't noticed any synthetic below $20 for 5L jug in 2014. At one point Napa Canada had Pennzoil Platinum 5L jug for ~$28, before $10 Pennzoil rebate; possible to price match at CanTire for additional 10% off. That's pretty much as low as synthetic has been for the year.

XD-3 0W-30, or its successor, Esso/Mobil Delvac 222 0W-30 is a steal of a deal at $5/something per litre in Canada, no waiting for sales or negotiating -- just pick some up at your local Esso/Imperial Oil lubricants distributor. I personally am over 60k km's/6 years into a drain interval with no deleterious effects, sludging, etc. in sight.

The oil pan is coming out of the car next summer to replace a slightly leaking pan gasket, so will have more proof, from the bottom end, of the quality of XD-3 and presumably its successor.

Is $5 per LT regular price for Delvac 222 0w30?

Between $5 and $6 is regular, yes. There's thread somewhere else on BiTOG that has been recently updated with pricing in September/October 2014. That's Canadian dollars of course, so multiply by $0.86 and its very favourable to the synthetic options that are available south of the border.

In my time here, I have seen on sale -

T6 at $32 + tax 5L (CT & WM)
M1 in various VISOM flavors 4.4L at $29 + tax (current at CT)
Amsoil OE at $5.75 per L (shipping adds 80c per liter)

I'll try to find an Esso distributor - is the 0w-30 a full synth?

Right now at Walmart the only synthetic they have on sale is the Castrol synthetic with titanium (black jug) 0w20 for $22 5 quart container.

The super Tech 5w20 synthetic is $17 for the 5 quarts. And both Mobil 1 synthetic and Mobil 1 EP synthetic are $26 for the 5 quart jugs. I believe the PP is $25 for the 5 quarts, with an expired $10 off coupon attached to it.

I've never really found good prices on oil anywhere else...maybe online, but the shipping will kill you. I did find Kendall GT 1 full synthetic on Amazon for $55 for a case of 12, shipping was included. I thought that was a good deal.

What would you guys prefer for the harsh Canadian winters

Delvac 222 0w30 vs Petro Canada Duron/super syn 0w30?

Reminder that Cantire still has QS Ultimate Synthetic for $27.99 expires this Friday. Not an OMG sale price but if someone needs oil for an upcoming oil change the price is decent for good oil.

The box will say blend but the datasheet and bottle say synthetic. The box wording could be a legacy of Esso's original 0w-30 HDEO which started as a blend.

As for comparing it to Duron 0w-30 or their PCMO 0w-30, at least in a normal gasser, I'm not sure which way I'd go. If I wanted the higher HTHS, I'd be sticking with the Duron 0w-30 or the Delvac Elite, of course. If I wanted resource conserving, well, it would have to be the Petro-Canada. They're all attractively priced, too, at their respective distributors. The Delvac Elite is available in a multitude of container sizes, which is a plus from my viewpoint.

I actually did do that for two jugs of PP.
Problem is, Pennzoil sent me one $10 rebate back when I mailed in two...I always have issues with Pennzoil rebates.

Last time, they claim I didn't buy PP until I sent an email with direct url to the product page at cantire.

Just my luck...

As a side note, we should use this thread to alert fellow Canadians about good oil deals that you come across.

Try to specify retailer, sales area and expiration.
I always keep an eye out for sales(probably most BITOGers) so I'll post up whenever I see something attractive.

Really depends on the dealerships in your area. All the ones I've contacted in the GTA want $8-9/L minimum. Only small town dealerships charge MSRP.

Anyone who likes the CanTire Formula 1 Synthetic oil there is a 3 day special happening from the 23rd - 25th.....I do believe they also offer 0w20 in this special.
