Metal piece found in oil pan. Can anyone identify

Are you sure it's metal? Looks like a piece of a wire loom sheath... they get brittle and it's easy to picture a little piece falling into the oil fill.
I also thought the larger piece looked almost like gray plastic.

But it appears the pan has been removed in one of the pics? So I'd ASSume at that point a tech could pretty easily ascertain if metal or plastic.

This is one of those threads that creates more questions right off the bat LOL. The whole story and chain of events seems weird with multiple dealers etc

Yes, it would be good to know what that piece is made out of. We can’t tell from the pictures.
This. It looks like it's threaded or a piece of loom. It also looks very plastic in nature.

I can only confirm what the dealer has said. I was there Monday and the tech wasn't in-of coarse. My service advisor I've been working with since day 1 back in 2015 and has been extremely helpful and on the up and up. She represented the piece as metal and listed it as the main reason for the engine replacement. I'd be pretty upset if the tech doesn't know the difference between a plastic piece and metal. I ll email them or go down there again to verify. Thanks

Here are the cams from repair from med October not sure if that helps. Dealer is getting with tech to confirm that that big thing is metal which is scary since she represented it as metal for the past 2 weeks. Ill keep ya posted.

@MattPersman do you know if theres a star report bulletin online for the 3.6 pentastar for this type of issue and would it basically be the same policy

Completely different design. No, no cases. It’s either a piece of wire loom. A piece of cast aluminum from the block where a bolt pushed hardened rtv through or just an unknown piece. I don’t know what they are looking for. Probably would have just driven it.

What was the need for the pan to come off ? Thought the cam and lifters were done. They drop something in there ?

The cams were worn pretty bad so the concern was metal chunks in the lower end

Mystery is history fellas. After 2 weeks it has been determined to be ...... a piece of plastic - wire harness material. The lady service advisor had mistaken the techs pictures. I'm having them put the pan back on and will wait to see if engine throws a code or anything. It's lifetime warranty so I have time. I was just shocked that Chunk of metal made its way thru the engine, which seems now to be mostly glitter metal and a few small chips. Thanks for everyone's help I really appreciate

I agree she spend 2 weeks about 25 yards away from the tech in the garage and couldn't get it figured out. I went on Monday and requested to see the metal in the pan and was denied. She said tech wasn't available but she had pictures. We spoke and both of us couldn't believe that big chunk of metal was in the pan. Thanks to some smart people on here I finally emailed to have her double check and to touch the piece with her own hands. I just want my jeep back and not deal with them for a good while.
Yeah this really seems like incredible incompetence. Candidates for

There's a few pics of the actual vehicle

I guess this i what i get for assuming... staggering that the little detail of what it was made out of was lost in translation...

Nice Jeep.

Plastic is much less concerning. Well, at least you know, and can be confident the engine will hold up.

I suggest an oil change shortly after any significant engine work. The oil change is the only way to remove circulating debris.

You could even pour a bit of ultra thin oil into the engine with the drain plug still out, to help flush any remaining particles out of the pan. I do this from time to time.
