I would have no issues running a mid-SAPS oil in a DI engine. It's more-or-less my sense of oil nerdyness leading me to run a 504.00 oil. Once ESP 0w40 is available in the US, that might be my go-to oil until the warranty runs out, at which time Redline and/or Joe Gibbs will be used.

Thanks for your thoughts. I may stick with the Synpower 5w-40 then for the foreseeble future until a better alternative comes along.

Checked the oil aisle at my local Meijer again. Several single quarts and several 5 quart jugs of Valvoline 0w40 (full SAPS), with one single quart of 5w40 (mid-SAPS) on the shelf.

As before, single and 5-quart jugs of Mobil 1 0w40 FS (high-SAPS). (non BMW LL-01) are available too.

I picked up some Valvoline SynPower 0W-40 at 40% off sale about a year a go. I should probably use it for my next OCI.

SynPower is everywhere near me, lots of different types too. They always have a big selection and were the first that I saw to bring out a full synthetic Dexos oil in Oz. (SynPower DX1 5W-30)

And today I saw 5 quart jugs of Synpower 5w40.

Over the weekend, they had five qt jugs of both 0w-40 and 5w-40.

I've been using the 5w-40 in my engine since I bought it new (about 45k now). Next time I bring it into my mechanic (a VW Audi specialist) I'm going to have him check for deposit formation and cam follower wear. That should give me a good idea about whether I should continue to use the 5w-40.

It has been a while since I checked so Ill have to recheck, but I don't think any of the Fort Wayne Meijers stock 0w40. The Mperks coupons from the auto section go nicely with oil purchases.
