:::Is Any New Truck Worth Buying?

What about an 80k truck? And what does breaking even have to do with it?

Cars and trucks are almost always a depreciating asset. The rare exception being a vehicle that becomes a desirable collector.

Don't buy a new vehicle if losing that money outweighs what you gain from having that vehicle. In my case, the new truck is worth it, because of the experiences it enables.

You will never break even on any vehicle unless it is a classic.

Usually repairs, maintenance, taxes, as well as other ownership costs prevent that from happening. There are ways you can prevent a huge depreciation though. Buying used vs. new, buying vehicles with lower maintenance costs, etc.

Pretty hard to buy a good used truck especially the Heavy Duty ones. People do buy them and keep them and if they do trade them the dealerships treat them like new to the point your better off buying new. They depreciate very little, not like cars. Reason I bought a new one and a new Challenger, another item that is hard to find used that wasn't beaten like a red headed step child.

If a half ton short cab would work for you, there're plenty of them out there at surprisingly cheap prices. Autotrader and similar sites are your friend here. There are even new '16s priced to match their at least year old build dates.
Optioned up pickups seem like one of the worst buys in the market while the real mechanical upgrades you get with a 3/4 or ton model are probably a great value.
Consider also that a couple of years of cheap fuel have moved the market strongly toward trucks used as daily driver commuters.
The real deals today are in sedans, since all God's children seem to want a truck or at least a CUV.
