I have BPH

I have BPH. Flowmax everyday and up until recently the Finasteride also. I stopped taking Finasteride to see if my horrible back ache (at night) would lessen. It did so I no longer take the Finasteride. I see now I’m going to have to begin taking it due to repeated nighttime trips to the bathroom and more difficulty (slow stream). So far I haven’t found what I think is a reasonable urologist. They immediately want to perform a procedure-surgery and act dismissive and pissed off when I’ve told them I’d like to avoid procedure-surgery. Subsequent appoints to both Urologists resulted in seeing a nurse because they had written me off.
One of them did all these “tests” to see if I was a “candidate for a procedure”. This turned out to be a young lady shaving my bung hole, inserting a probe, and manually striking my donk with a metal rod while watching a scope. She said it was to see if everything was “responding” correctly. I told her to stop. I left and never came back. It was a demeaning process for her and me and I really think this Urologist was drumming up some fictions procedure to charge my insurance to include putting me in my place. Go ahead and call me stupid. Shaving your bung hole by a 25 year old women who then is holding your donk and hitting it with a metal probe???!!! That’s just plain torture and the crap bad dreams are made of. What good did that do other than him trying to be a jerk because I wouldn’t let him do a procedure. That hair growing back in had its own medical issues. Don’t get hot outside working! Too much info here but some of these “Urologist “ are stone cold perverted freaks.

Edit: I wondered what men did 100 years ago to include other cultures? There are some very old Asian men who more than likely have this issue. What works for them? Green tea? Herbs? Some form of stretching-Yoga?
We can’t all need invasive surgeries to correct what must be an issue due to aging. Did old men just die because of this? I’m not referring to cancer but age related enlargement of our prostate. There has to be a more natural approach. I realize there are all manner of blended herbal supplements on the market in the US but personally I’m of the opinion it’s made to sale, not actually work. I’d really like to hear from older guys that have found relief other than procedures and prescribed meds.

first off YOU decide, + your doc recommends!! years ago had a high PSA test that are commonly inaccurate, doc recommended a biopsy, i said No + took typical prostrate supplements that worked! then a few years ago after taking a script for high estrogen i could NOT pee, after a short cath use i was recommended flomax, it helped a little but back to saw palmetto, the supplement worked better for ME. research shows diet + lifestyle changes can work for some, search + learn! today i am 75+ YO + have no issues with BPH + continue to use my prescription testosterone cypionate + take many supplements, eat decently, + stay active. we are all different but many times we can help ourself stay healthy. good luck + happy healthy holiday to all. + stay away from consuming too many carbs which can be toxic, especially sugar thats half fructose said to be the worse thing by many knowledgeable health advisors. its often noted as we are older you die with some diseases BUT not from them, as medical mistakes are said to be the third cause of death!

Doctors love it when you go in and dictate the procedure(s).
"After 4 years of medical school, urology residency is an additional 5 or 6 years, depending on the program (6-year programs have a dedicated research year built-in).:"

Yea-guys that change their own oil know better than someone who went to school 5plus years.......and then a residency for another 5 years.

Are you considering Aquabation or Rezum? These are water treatments and will not harm male feritility.
They are looking at everything. Several urologist have been going over my case for over a week now and trying to determine the best approach. The first ones mentioned were aquablation plus robotic/laser. I am glad to hear since cancer has been ruled out they do not plan to remove the entire gland. It is enormous they say. I have heard of some tough side effects when it is all removed. Loss of control etc.... Just the opposite of can not go to can not stop! Yikes.

I wish I hadn't read this thread to see what I have to look forward to as I age. Early 50s here.
It's a matter of time, just the same reason you need reading glasses now or will soon.
Remember one thing when the day comes, talk to your DR about Finasteride, forget the others depending on what he says of course. It takes a few months to notice but it's amazing difference when it does..

check out Ken D Berry MD vid 7 steps to cure BPH. Docs are somewhat restricted in what they recommend + use unless they have a solo practice + those working for-in a hospital MUST follow certain guidelines according to any reports! i respect my docs opinion BUT IMO i believe their hands are "somewhat" tied especially if they work in a hospital + although they know a lot its YOUR final decision as theirs is run by $$$$$ IMO!

Sure wish I knew about that stuff years ago. By the time I knew anything was wrong it was really too late.

Why don't you try doubling the Flomax dose you are taking. I won't hurt anything, worth a try than going back on Finasteride.

I’ll probably need to. It takes me 5 minutes to pee. Ain’t going to lie, I sit to pee when at home. I was taught the good Lord doesn’t make mistakes. Based on my belief, BPH is an ailment created by other things such as our food etc. All the meat we buy/eat has been pumped full of antibiotics, growth hormones, and handled in unhealthy ways. Can’t change that. Don’t live where I can raise cows, chickens, and hogs. What can we do????

YES you hit the nail on the head!! todays food is worse than ever so big food can make big $$$, + dont expect the government agencies to protect you as they are influenced by big $$$. overseas many toxic foods etc are banned BUT here in good old USA lobbing gets laws passed that allows toxic foods to be sold here, so thats why i say you must look out for yourself + read + learn whats good or not. i learned a lot on line but before that i bought + read books + still do. love william davis's book undoctored, a retired cardiologist that notes how mainstream medicine is lacking. read about hormones on line + bought Testosterone Syndrome by Eugene Shippen who i doctored with before he retired.

I have yet to get any Doctor or Specialist to come up with any idea they can share with me why some go thru life with normal
prostate and some have enlarged with all sorts of problems. The answer is always "we simply can't say." I have friends with zero
issues and then some with lots of prostate issues so?

It is a medical fact if you have your testicles removed at an early age you will not develop prostate issues. Otherwise 33% of men will. I don't think any of us want to go through the first statement by choice. But yes-medical science doesn't have answers for everything. BUT has alot more answers than just 20 years ago.

The actual cause of prostate enlargement is unknown. Factors linked to aging and changes in the cells of the testicles may have a role in the growth of the gland, as well as testosterone levels. Men who have had their testicles removed at a young age (for example, as a result of testicular cancer) do not develop BPH.

Also, if the testicles are removed after a man develops BPH, the prostate begins to shrink in size. However, this is not a standard treatment for an enlarged prostate.

Thank God!!

I’m seeing some crazy stuff in here.
It’s just about a fact of life once you obtain the age of 70 you will be affected as up to 80% men are at that age.

“About 50% of men between the ages of 51 and 60 have BPH, and that number jumps to 70% among men aged 60 to 69 and around 80% of men over 70 years of age.”

These are widely accepted percentages.

Those numbers are sobering. I am suffering lots of stuff due to my own fault. Not seeking help or the proper help
soon enough. My advice to all is at the first sign of any issues , seek and ask for referals from guys you may know
who have used urologist and get yourself to the best one you can find ASAP.
