This is my Brothers car. My Mother bought it new in 2001. I use to buy the oil for it back then. It has seen Delvac 1 5W-40, 76 Pure Synthetic 5W-40, Castrol Syntec 5W-40, Rotella T 5W-40 in its oil pan. This engine always burned oil. I had my brother switch over to Castrol HM 10W-40, and the burn off has dropped big time. It use to burn 2.5 quarts in 5K, with any 5W-40 oil. I chose the Castrol HM 10W-40 because it has the highest viscosity @100c, of 16.1. It's the thickest 40 weight on the market. This is the second 5K run with this oil.

Miles on oil 5,000
Miles on engine 109,000
Engine 2.0 AVH

Thanks for posting. That is showing a much better looking add pack than my run of Castrol HM did. I wonder if [censored] messed mine up?

It still sheared a good bit though, I had that problem with it as well.

Yes, VW calls for a 502 spec synthetic for the 10K OCI's. This 8V 2 liters can run on Wesson oil. The Mk4's with this engine burn oil. It cost to much to top it off with synthetic.
