Airbnb, VRBO, Hotel/Motel. Which do u prefer?

How is it robbery ? Most smaller places are a fraction of what a hotel would cost and unlike many that tailor to vacation areas, they aren't super strict about dates of stay, i.e. Saturday to Saturday. Sure, some will have a minimum # of nights but that's it.

And do you think Airbnb only offers rooms inside another person's home ?
Not always, but used to be much more affordable.

Not always and as I say in the rest of my post............

Hotel / Motel. A lot of the fees AirBnb added aren't really worth it in the end to be honest. Unless it is in a location that I need or a type of experience I want just a normal boring hotel / motel is better to me.

Hotel or Motel for me. Main reason is because my work gives travel discounts through one of the programs that we have for our time cards and stuff. We get fancy hotels and less fancy up to 50% off. This year on vacation I’ll be using that. We also get discounts at major sporting events, rental cars, cruise ships etc.

If it's family-related or more than 2 days, we aren't staying in a hotel. No interest in going out to eat for (3) meals a day - we will use the house or condo's kitchen. We also typically have a washer/dryer available.

I stick with Hilton brand hotels. Travel a lot, Air BnB is sketchy at best, cleaning fees are too high, and arrival time restrictions make it impossible to deal with when things don't go according to plan. BnB is great when you can rent an entire house in rural Vermont for a week. But can be beyond terrible when staying near a major city.

The post above got it right. I had a AirBnB guy show up to greet me in his underwear. That was the final straw and I stick with quality hotels now. No motels, no external entrances.
Totally agree with Hotels by "brand" especially for a couple or small group.
We have used AB&B with stuff like large family cabins etc but would never trust one for a smaller size rental type thing.
There are too many , as somone said "unclean" who dont give a hoot about that or even return business. Too many stories of people getting burned and trips ruined by unsanitary, unclean or down right messy rentals they got kinda stuck with far from home once they arrived.

Is this a possibility, worked for us. People we know lent us their condos when unrented, and all we have to do is keep it clean and make sure we pay for electricity. This saves $150+ per day , really. I’m a Buffoon I didn’t think of that in 2012 (had to be asked shame on me).

My buddy said people routinely didn’t offer to pay anything using his FT lauderdale house (relatives) so he said nobody gonna use it.

I am going here next:

For work I stay in Hilton brands and for just myself it’s too easy plus points. I also have a Hilton CC that I use to earn more points. Between my work stay points and CC points I get quite a few free nights a year plus my honors status so it makes sense. Now this works great for just me, the wife, and two kids.
That said, going on a couples trip especially with kids multiple hotel rooms don’t make sense and we need to be able to cook and run a washer. Air BB is great for that type of situation. I love when we rent a nice private cabin in the blue ridge mountains. Air BB has its place but not for typical one or two night travel. Least not for me.

Usually it's hotels for my wife and I traveling. In fact we're headed out of town next week-going to spend 3 days going and 3 days coming on the road(a 1 year old makes travel a lot slower and makes us a lot less eager to put in full long days like the two of us alone might do). We'll stay with my parents in Kentucky for one of the nights each direction, and then hotels on the road and at our destination.

Usually we do a big summer vacation with my wife's family, and Destin, FL is a favorite spot. They like Sandestin, and there are hotel options but on the whole renting a home is hard to beat. My FIL likes booking through VRBO, or the last few times has bypassed them and booked directly through owners of ones we've liked(some have ways to do that). Split 3 ways, it's usually quite a bit less expensive than 3 separate hotel rooms. Plus, we always look for rentals with a golf cart, which is a big deal there too. The kitchen is nice, and since I actually genuinely enjoy being around all of them, having shared spaces is nice too(but still our own rooms at the end of the day). Since our son and our nephew spend enough time together to be practically brothers anyway, it's a ton of fun to have the space together for them.

The only time we really had an issue was at the most recent one last summer, where a bunch of community-specific rules weren't communicated to us and we received citation for them. We were told to place garage at the curb for pick-up before 6:00AM daily, but weren't informed that it couldn't be set out earlier than 8PM the night before. When we checked in, the golf cart was only half on the parking pad-not only did we find it that way but weren't told that this was against community rules and were cited within an hour or two of check-in before we'd even touched the thing. There were bunches of other little issues with the unit we were staying in(some outlets not working, towel rods in the bathroom falling apart, door keypad randomly changing combinations twice during our stay, parking pad being small enough that getting two vehicles+golf cart on it and not hanging off was a coordinated multi-step operation, a few others I'm forgetting), none of which would have been a big deal by themselves but which added up to make a less than great stay. We would stay in that particular community again, now knowing their specific rules(and double/triple checking to make sure there weren't new ones) but not the unit we stayed in.
