Hi guys,
First post here. I have been doing a lot of reading here, and on other turbo diesel related sites about oils. I have a 2008 F250 with the 6.4 in it. The truck has about 75,000 miles on it and I have always used Rotella T6 5w40 with a Motorcraft filter. At 14-15 quarts, this is starting to get pretty expensive and I've been curios to see if I can achieve the same engine protection with a good 15w40.
How I use the truck: The truck sits M-F. I drive my trusty old Ford Ranger to work daily and use the truck on the weekends. I typically drive about 5,000-7,000 miles a year, and change the oil every six months regardless of mileage (thought this was the way to do it, due to age and possible moisture). I live in Northern, CA. So as far as climate goes, I rarely see any freezing temperatures, but do see some 110* summer days.
Just looking for some more knowledge and experience to see if I can get away with a Delo 15w40 or similar and still have the same engine protection as with the Rotella T6.
Thanks guys, I look forward to your insightful responses.
