Silverado EV Debut Jan. 2022. ~$30,000 Equinox EV and Blazer EV Coming

If I'm still around when the Ford EV trucks start rolling in W. TN, I'll be in line to buy one.

Oil Change - Hot or Cold and Oil Level Check - Hot or Cold?

I come by about every 3-6 months to see what is the hot topic. Hot oil may not be the hottest but it is interesting. We've got a 2013 Tundra and a 2017 Avalon. At 79 years old I don't crawl under vehicles any more. I take it back to the dealer, which is about a 20 mile drive one way. As with...

    Williams Tools

Ran across a link for Williams tools. I don't claim to be a mechanic but I do like quality tools. I haven't thought about Williams for at least 20 years(I'm retired) but they were very good quality back then. Are they the same quality tools that they were? Most of my tools are Proto from before...

    How Long On Oil Change?

Haven't been here in quite awhile but have a question for those in the know. I have a 2013 Tundra that is approaching one year on the last change. The mileage since that change is only about 6k miles. I'm considering waiting until cooler weather, maybe October, before changing. I always take it...

Dealer No Longer Uses Toyota Oil

Oh Yes! There are lots of WalMart's around us. Many people around here consider it a weekly pilgrimage to go to Walmart. I may try one someday. Despite what the service advisor told me about the dealer using TGMO on any car specifying 0W20, I'm going to have a sample analyzed next year just to...

Dealer No Longer Uses Toyota Oil

Just got back from 6 mo. checkup of 2017 Avalon. Service rep apologized for bad information. If vehicle calls for 0W20 oil, they use Toyota Genuine Motor Oil. If the vehicle is older they use M1 5W30. Took a bit of a push to get it out of him. Tempest in a tea pot. John

Dealer No Longer Uses Toyota Oil

Well! I have read every post on 4 pages and I am still not sure what they will put in my crankcase. Some have even said that it could be cheap conventional oil. I tried to have an analysis run by Blackstone on the first oil change at one year. The post office lost the sample. I did not have a...

Dealer No Longer Uses Toyota Oil

For the last 5 years I have been returning to the dealer for oil changes on my 2013 Tundra. I had intended to do the same for the 2017 Avalon. I recently received one of those cards from the dealer about service and all it mentioned was Exxon M1. I decided to continue dealer servicing after the...

Synthetic is superior...so WHY use conventional???

I haven't read this entire thread but I can state why I use synthetic. I have an '06 Avalon. I intend to keep it at least 2-3 more years. It only has 120K on it now. I change the oil myself at 10K+. I like the warm fuzzy feeling I get that I'm not driving on worn out(my technical term) oil. I...

    best 0W20

It sounds as if any quality(?) 0W-20 defines TGMO. If that is the case I can buy Amsoil or Mobil 1, for instance and take it to someone local that I trust to change my oil since I can't be sure what the dealer is using from his bulk tank. John W.TN

    best 0W20

This from the Toyota website: "Genuine Toyota Motor Oil Formulated with a special additive package that helps protect Toyota metal and gasket surfaces from corrosion, prevents foaming and maintains the proper application of oil on cylinder walls. • Available in 5W-30, 10W-30 and 10W-40 grades...

    TGMO Pricing/Decision

Was here for one of my infrequent visits to BITOG, and saw this thread with TGMO in the title. Since I have a 2013 Tundra that is still in the dealer provided servicing, I thought I would add my 2¢. The Tundra has a large skid plate that must be removed to get to the drain plug and filter. There...

    New computer to buy?

I just bought a new Dell from Amazon w/windows 7. I refused to go to Windows 8 and my 8 year old machine w/XP was getting touchy. I'm very satisfied. I get tired of Microsoft forcing stuff on us just because they can. Just another example of the customer is never right. John W.TN

2014 Toyota Tundra 4.6 OCI advice

Just to give an alternate view, I am staying with the free service for 24 mo. My 2013 Tundra went back at 6 months and got the tire rotation and fluid checks. Again at 12 months for oil change, etc. I expect mileage at 24 mo. to be about 14k-15K Mileage at 1 yr was approx. 7300 mi. During this...

Where To Buy TGMO 0W-20 SN?

I've spent about the last 2 hours skimming(about all I'm qualified to do) this topic. http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/forums/ubbthreads.php/topics/2678471/34 I'm now convinced that this oil is the one I want to use in my 2013 Tundra. Given my use of the truck, this oil is probably not required...
