    2001 Accord Coolant Question

2001 Honda Accord (2.3L 4cyl). I'm adding coolant to my resevior but I'm concerned about adding too much. The owners manual is not specific. Here's my deal: Coolant level (cold) is at the "Min" mark. When Hot, the level is just above "Min". I plan to add enough coolant to bring my level back...

    Die Hard Battery Warranty

I have a Die Hard Gold battery in my vehicle that's starting to show signs of loosing charge (down from 520 CCA to 427). OEM specs require 490 CCA. The battery is less than 3 years old. Charging system checks-out well. Here's the thing - I didnt buy the battery. It was purchased by the previous...

    Honda Battery Question

Took my 2001 Accord in for the usuall oil change and "multi-point" inspection at my local Honda dealer. I have a Die Hard Gold battery from 2008 they said "needed" to be replaced. I opted to do some research first. Even though I didnt buy my current battery (previous owner did), I would assume...

    Pennzoil Plat at Walmart

Anyone know recent price trends for PP at Wallmart? I heard it's currently $23 for a 5qt jug but that seems pretty low. What's your report...

Any harm in running the engine with 1 qt low?

No, shouldn't hurt. But instead of worrying about it, I hope you've already topped-off by now. Just don't drive further than necessary before adding a quart.

    Syns under $25?

Searching for some deals at Wallmart but not really finding any. Anyone seen synthetic (any brand) under $25? Looking for the 5 quart jug. Going to stop by after work, but my closest Wallyworld is known to have a poor selection. Would like to get a better idea of what's out there - even if I...

    Looking for opinions

Then they should also make a car that won't start (or continue driving) if the seatbelt isn't engaged. That's more pratical.

    Engine Runs Cooler with Syns?

Can an engine oil claim to reduce vehicle operating temperature? I thought that was a result of the cooling system. For example, will my engine run "cooler" with synthetics (let's say Mobil 1) when compared to conventional? Seems like a vague question, but in a hot climate, anything helps. Thanks.

Buying from very small dealers - have you?

It depends. If you need to pay-off a trade or require financing, then it's generally more savy to stick with a big name dealer. Price of the vehicle is only one aspect. Remember, big-name dealers have a "reputation" to uphold. They also (usually) only sell cars that have some value left...

    Valvoline 5W30 SN/GF-5, 4628 miles, 2008 Avalanche

Are you sure Valvoline 5W-30 meets ILSAC GF-5? I just looked at the Valvoline website and the PDS (Product Data Sheet) states "Meets ILSAC GF-4". Seems GF-5 was a recent transition among MOST suppliers. I'm not sure Valvoline was suppling GF-5 when you put this oil in the engine (I assume...

DW-1 ATF compatible with older Hondas

Need to check your manual. Honda (like Toyota) is very specific about ATF fluids. My 2001 REQUIRES Honda Z-1 ATF. You can use Dexron III in a pinch, but it needs to be replaced after a short while. Honda trannys are pretty sensitive. Use the good stuff. Dealers should be able to swap out your...

gas station pump shuts off automatically....?

Yeah, it happens. VERY ANNOYING when you're in a hurry. It's almost 99.9% an issue with the gas station. Don't worry about your car. If it keep happening every time you fill-up at every gas station, then start to wonder. But until then, just use another pump / station.

    Castrol Edge Question

Looking for some opinions on Castrol Edge with Syntec. How does it rate among other big name syns? Anyone have experience running this oil? Daily drivers preffered. Thanks. 1. My choice is between Valvoline SynPower & Mobil 1. Castrol is a few bucks cheaper on sale.

REALLY need help guys ,,, pls !!

Follow your severe service schedule for your Toyota vehicle. Stick with Toyota Genuine Oil. It seems you have no trustworthy options for better synthtics at your location. 1. Keep your cooling system is excellent working condition. Best of luck

    2001 Accord Oil Question

Anyone have a good oil recomendation for my 2001 Accord, 2.3L VTEC? I'm partial to Synthetics becuase of the hot climate of South Texas. But it's a daily driver. Nothing harsh or high performance. I've heard Japanese cars respond better to Castrol, but no proof of that. Currently using...

    Pennzoil Yellow Bottle

I'm considering a switch to Pennzoil in my 2001 Accord. Cheaper prices across the board. I've been running conventional, so PYB is probably what I'll use. Never tried it before. Been using Valvoline / Mobil. Anyone's personal thoughts on using PYB in a Honda? Very hot climate. OCI's will be...

    Mobil Conventional

Has anyone tried Mobil Conventional lately? I guess it's been re-branded as "Mobil Super". Again, not Mobil 1 - I'm talking about the basic conventional stuff. "Express Lube" near my house is strictly using Mobil products. So I assume the basic change will include Mobil Conventional. Any...

    Napa TruStop Brake Pads

Went to my local big name mechanic. They had a sale on front axle brake work using Napa TruStop pads. My OEM pads were at 25% when inspected. Apart from the $100 upgrade to "premium" pads, I decided to go with TruStop. Also changed the the brake fluid out with DOT 3 (2006 Toyota Sienna minivan)...

    Mobil Super Syn

What about detergents in Mobil Super Syn? Exxon Mobil is pretty quite about the add packs. I assume Super Synthtic could be considered a "detergent" oil (like Mobil 1)?

    New Mobil Super Synthetic

Yeah, but it's still dirt cheap for "synthetic", especially for a huge brand-name like Exxon Mobil. In my neck of the woods, $3.49 is cheaper than QSUD! What's the catch?
