Can anyone explain what all of this, "Push To Pass Seconds Remaining" is all about in Indy Car? It always comes up near the end of every race. And I never see it in any other forms of motor racing. Open wheel or otherwise.

Given the title I thought this was going to be about BMs. Glad it isn't haha

OK, so it's basically a boost button like Nitrous and such. But with a time or amount limit. So what's stopping the guy who being overtaken from pressing it, and prevent the guy from overtaking him? Equal is equal. If they're both pressing it, neither has an advantage. Sound like a bunch of B.S.

That's why you have to pick and choose when to use it.There's a limited time so if a pass can be made w/o having to use it then that's what you'll do. But if the one getting passes tries to prevent a pass by using it then he just used his time while the other guy didn't. All a strategy thing.

No, you have to figure out when to use it and therein lies the strategy problem. You can't use it every time someone tries to pass you.

It depends on how many times someone tries to pass you. Being overtaken is bad, regardless of when or how it happens. You can choose when you overtake, but you can't when someone is trying to overtake you. Besides, half the time or better in Indy Car, cautions determine the winner. Yesterday was a good example. Newgarden lucked out, Castroneves got screwed. Luck of the draw, nothing more. If Helio had unlimited, "Push To Pass" time on his button, it wouldn't have helped him. I'm guessing he sat on the button at the start, the way he overtook the first 2 cars in front of him.

This is like the "overboost" found in a lot of modern performance cars. You get some extra power for a few seconds.

Interesting to see this in motorsport.

You can't use it on restarts or the start of the race unless there are 2 laps remaining.
