Robenstein - LOL yah no kidding, Walmart really does have better prices on oil than most average auto stores. I'm beginning to feel like I may convert to trying out the Valvoline in my bike next summer.

Sonic - First of all, I love your username, secondly, wow... I think that pushed me to the point of almost being scared about the Rotella T6 5w-40 in my bike right now. I mean, I don't think that just one OCI with that in, even if it does shear alot, would hurt too much, right? Good Riddance, I ought not bring myself such anxiety, I need to sleep at night, lol. I'll likely keep the T6 for this summer, but will also likely be using a 50 grade (such as the Valvoline) next summer.

I run the T6 5-40 in my 06 V Star Classic. It has 5900 miles on the engine and the bike shifts smoothly and quietly with this oil.

Thanks for the info.

It's funny how there are people on both sides of the fence here. Some say T6 is good, some say use the conventional Rotella T 15w-40, and even others who say to use the slightly heavier 20w-50 grade Valvoline. I still don't really know yet where I stand, but the T6 is staying in for this summer and I'll see what I think of it at summer's end.

I recently had a thread about T6 in my KZ 1000, it came down to shearing. Shared sump like my KZ T6 would shear faster than Rotella T 15w-40, so between the two its 15W-40 for my use. I would not have a problem using the Valvoline 20W-50.

It's not that the 5w40 Rotella is bad oil it's just that there seem to be better oils for you application (shared sump, air cooled). The 5w40 will perform well but it just won't last as long as the 15w40, which is cheaper. If you don't ride much just run the 5w40 with confidence. I prefer the thicker oil in the summer heat when riding for hours on end. If the shared sump is shearing the oil down after a while it'll still be within spec of the motor if I start with a 50 grade.
