No real bicycle mechanic works at REI or Performance...all those "experts" there do nothing but regurgitate what the product reps tell them.

You just used the equivalent of Jiffy Lube giving you expert advice on your car...

Who said "Expert Advice?" Certainly not me. I just posted that link to see what your reaction would be. I actually DO plan on trying bar and chain lube on my bicycle chain someday.

Sorry, was trying to accuse you. Just using the example that large volume dealers like REI and Performance are kind of the butt of jokes in the bicycle world when it comes to service. I was using Jiffy Lube as a correlation in the automotive service world.

Seriously though "bicycle specific" oil and grease is often just repackaged product and then significantly marked up. This includes dry lube as well (which I still don't recommend). For example you can buy a 9.3oz aerosol can of Blaster Dry Lube with PTFE from Home Depot for $4.49. REI sells a 8oz aerosol bottle of Finish Line Dry Lube with Teflon (same as PTFE) for $10. Twice as much for less product simply because it is a "bicycle lube".

Is Tri-Flow a bicycle specific lubricant? I got some at the local hardware store today. It's the DRY lube in the 2-oz straw bottle. So far, I've only tried it on some nuts and bolts. The lube is VERY thin; it has no problem getting into fine threads. It's just like they say, it uses a carrier liquid to apply the dry lube and then eventually dries to an invisible film. If it wasn't for the perfume that it leaves behind, I'd never know it's there.

LOL!!

Spray silicone lube for me.There is not a lot of stress for a piece of lawn equipment. I don't want to use something that will attract all that dirt. I would certainly use something better if I were lubricating a motorcyle chain for example.
