I've been an XM radio subscriber for about a year now. This might be the most important development in radio since Marconi invented it. Eventually commercial radio will be the complete wasteland it has made itself; screaming car dealers and rap music stations.

Thanks to the bean counters and marketing folks who did a wonderful job of figuring out what people want to hear. These are the mid-level manager visionaries who work at Evergree media, Clear Channel, etc.

I've been finding some great dance stuff on XM81. I haven't enjoyed straight-4 this much since the late 80's dance/freestyle scene.

i have a few immediate relatives with satellite radio. its pretty nice, but the sound quality isn't all there. its like a cross between cd and radio. its better than radio, but not nearly as good as a cd.

down here in sofl we have 93.1 on the fm dial. they play 50 minutes of rock at a time so i only have to turn the radio off for 10 minutes every hour to avoid the commercials. thats good enough for me. but if i didnt have 93.1, id probably buy a satellite radio.

wonder if theres a way to make satellite radio sound better though.

I've been a sirius subscriber for a few months now, and the first thing I noticed was the inferior sound quality. After a while though it doesn't bother me any more and I can enjoy commercial free music while cruising around town...totally worth it IMO!

I had Sirius for about 2 years and had to switch when the new truck I bought had came with XM. I can not listen to regular radio anymore. The quality of the sound is not that bad. If it ever gets to me I pop in a cd.

I have XM in both of my cars. Oddly enough the sound quality is best in the one which the XM receiver transmitts to the car radio. The other car is hard wired and doesn't have the same fidelity. My receivers are XM Roadies, very small and compact. XM radio had a promotion about 6 months ago and practically gave away the radio w/a 3 month subscription.

I don't ever listen to commercial radio anylonger. In fact I have it streaming through my computer right now.

Getting to be too many commercials on XM, especially ESPN.

ESPN dictates contents on ESPN stations, not XM. On the XM-controlled & programmed music channels, there are exactly zero commericals.

Uh, wrong. I hear commercials on the stations in the 20's all the time. XM22 is particularly bad. The XM comedy channels also have a ton of commercials.

When I signed up for this thing 3 years ago it was $9.99 and there were basically no commercials. 3 years later it's $12.99 and there are commercials everywhere. Now that I no longer take a million trips through the mid- and south-west where there is nothing but country (not that I don't like country) and spanish stations, I'm tempted to scrap the service altogether.

No, not wrong. Clear channel owns the rights to program 4 music channels. Those channels that have 'cm' marked on your radio's display, where applicable. The Clear channel contract ends sometime in 2008. The music channels that Clear channel programs are not available on the XMradio.com online feed.

I believe only music channels were ever marketed as commercial free.

Had xm about 6 months and love it. Talk radio channels, espn, the music quality is better than regular radio on mine.

I have had XM for about 1.5 years now. I'm a talk radio junkie, my wife loves 24-sunny, son listens to the sports channels, and the girl listen to Radio Disney. The only problem is 'who' gets to listen.....

Can't listen to terrestrial radio anymore....

I remember when cable TV was primarily commercial free. How many channels can still claim that now? Sadly, I believe the same will happen with Sirrius and XM radio. Very few magazines have been able to survive on subsciption fees alone without going through the roof on price and the same will possibly hold true for satellite radio.

Believe me, when they start playing commercials I'll dump them. I wasn't listening to any radio before I went with sirius. I'll enjoy it while it's still good and move on when it goes down hill.

It's not cheap, because you have to buy specific hardware that can receive the HD radio signal.

I'm an XM junkie. I currently have 4 radios.

I have a old XM radio but I never cared for the channel lineup back then. I only got XM because it was cheaper at the time. Now that I compare the two I'm going with Sirius this time. Has the NFL and NBA better rock and country stations from what I can tell. I'm getting so tired of listening to commercials but I have to wait till we reach our debt snowball goal.. it's torture.
