Noticed recently that one of the rocker cover gaskets on the Capri was leaking, and since i hadn't done a valve adjustment in 2 years i though it would be a good excuse to put in some rubber gaskets i'd bought.

Sure enough all of the exhaust valves were way too closed, engine was running hotter than usual recently so maybe that was why.

The engine has never been rebuilt, it's not the original engine to the car but the same year, over the eyars it's had a variety of 20W-50 Dino oils, 10W-40 Synthetic blends.

Anyway here are the pics :

I'm curious about those exhaust headers.... this capri looks like it's got some TLC and some scat. What's the story?

I used to dig those things. I didn't like it when Ford melded them with the Mustangs but even then, I liked the Capri better.

20W-40 or 20W-50 is what Ford spec'd for these for places that see temperatures above 30C, such as where i live.
And this engine with over 150k miles on it just doesn't have enough hot oil pressure unless you run a 50 grade.

Those headers are factory, the engine is totally standard

This is the 3 Liter 144Hp version that was not available in America.

Love seeing these pictures.

I'd be too tempted to run a HDEO with short intervals to try and clean it up, maybe with some seal conditioning additive.

It is a known problem, usually due to bad overheating and lead foot drivers.
I will probably eventually put a steel one in mine.

Doesn't hold enough oil pressure on a 15W-40 HDEO.
What i am running now is 4L of 20W-50 with 1L of 15W-40 HDEO.

'Euro' Capri's were always neat cars.

When I was much younger I used to see them around occasionally; but there were not that many sold in NA, and they rusted away fast, so you basically NEVER see them here now.

I’m less impressed by the internal cleanliness, than the cleanliness of the rest of the engine around that.

Ford's done a good job with the Cologne V6s - even if the EFI version used in a Ranger or Explorer was a pain to work on. I remember seeing a 2.8L version in an Aerostar under the doghouse.

I do it once a year or 18 months depending on mileage, usually 3000-5000 miles.

Dont. The steel ones are very noisy.
