The pool had to go. Wife in mourning.....

If I live someplace warm enough, I'd love to have a pool. But it would be a plunge pool, not the huge pools that you see in a lot of years (and in places like Florida, it pretty much takes up the whole back yard).
 
We installed an in-ground when the Wife was preg with our first, best money we have ever spent on a family item, both my kids have never known a time when they couldn't swim.
 
Pools are seen as a real estate liability around here nowadays.
That's too cold of a climate for a pool. My parents grew up in the Bay Area and we still have lots of relatives there. You'd need an indoor pool to make it usable year round.

Around here the realtors say that pools don't add value but the houses with backyard pools sell FAST and usually at a substantial premium.
