That's the end of F1 as we know it

A snowflake got loose somewhere in F1. Is there no end to this stupidity?

Sensitivities and shaming have reached a point where we're 'voluntarily' sanitizing society and denying ourselves freedom (and biology). Some women's contribution to society is to be doctors or engineers while others contribution is to be models. They're not enslaved and they know what the job is before they take it. I never watched F1 for the grid girls but I was glad they were there. Sad.

When it comes to sports, I like gorgeous women who are also worth watching for their athletic skill...Jennie Finch is better known as a pitcher, but I really liked this picture of her playing 1B.

Of course, I also like watching games that don't necessarily feature potential Miss America contestants...it's just a nice little added bonus.

I've always found it interesting as a male who never cared to watch or follow sports. I'd much rather watch the cheerleaders/whatever girls for 3 hours instead of some sweaty dude in spandex running around with a ball. The whole concept of sports always seemed a little backwards to me.

I always thought lining the hallways behind the podium with dozens of girls mechanically smiling and clapping was just kind of awkward anyways. Makes no difference to me if they are there or not.
I know if I had a daughter we would have a conversation on why "grid girls" and their like are around.

Any of you grid girl supporters like to explain why they are so important to you?

Agreed, never once I've I tuned in to an F1 race to see the grid girls...sorry it's gone for those who feel it's such a huge loss but honestly, did it ever make the racing better?

I think it's more fun to be the sweaty dude with the ball than to watch anything...getting old and my body is starting to betray me, though.
I own a very odd little book called "The Tao Of Baseball" that ends up by saying "Ultimate Baseball" would be everybody playing, nobody watching. I really like the sentiment.

Good one Trav. F1 is getting boring. Too predictable as to who the world champion will be.

Is this the way they normally like? I like this.. just a pretty girl in nice clothes. Reminds me of the beauty competitions you see of the girls dressed like "back in the day" during the summer car shows.

A more stereotypical approach would be less clothing unfortunately.

At some point they'll just give everyone a participation trophy.

At least MotoGP and DTM still have grid girls. NASCAR has the Monster girls.

I just hope they don't get rid of the escorts that walk the darts players out on the PDC tour.

KLM flight attendants are soooo beautiful and are nice to look at.

Bingo. Maybe the in person experience might have been a little different, but I never saw the attraction on TV. Having a bunch of girls, as you mentioned, smiling and clapping awkwardly, all dressed and made up identically like a Robert Palmer video, never did much for me. As much as I'm no NASCAR fan, at least the women there exhibit some personality.

If the grid girls in F1 were replaced with lifelike animatronic mannequins, would anyone notice?

One thing about the grid girl thing is a lot of them use it as an opportunity to advance their modelling careers. The DTM series had an article posted recently about the guy whose job it is to select their grid girls. Even at the Rolex 24 this weekend there were girls in skimpy Weathertech outfits including Lindsay Pelas

It's interesting -- I almost never see the term "snowflake" tossed around except by people who are in the process of demonstrating that tendency themselves...

I'm surprised they haven't accused F1 of using press gangs to hook them out of the pubs and press them into servitude as team concubines. They cant be doing this of their own free will.

Silly comparison, and you know it. Hooters is all about women as ornaments. Nothing about F1 requires women as ornaments. All that does is turn off some women who might have become fans of the sport.

I believe the Cubbies may have started this trend with Marla Collins back in the '80s, not sure...she became a minor star in the area and then got fired for posing in Playboy.

No I don't know it! You mean F1 girls are not there as ornament like hooterss? I guess women don't go in there either because they are offended. Lets not get all snowflake here.
