Don't ever judge a book by it's cover...

Oftentimes you can. Like that book with the German dudes and their handlebar mustaches and the scat porn...

LOL too true!

No comment on the appropriateness of sweat pants because I can never know the specifics.

I do know "sweat pants" go from $8 mega cheapies (which I wear around the house) to being half a $140 ensemble.

I've heard the waist band doesn't hold your automatic pistol so well when you go clubbing. (think NFL)

There's a thing called, IIRC, a "bodkin" that is designed for this kind of re-stringing job. I did actually see it in Daiso though (Japanese one-price-shop chain. Dunno if you have them in the USA) so mis-translation is a possibility.

I think I actually bought one, since this kind of job comes up fairly often, but mislaid it without using it.

Failing that you can improvise, as above. I've used a section of drinking straw. A bead can work but you have to have the right size.

I'm sure the guys in sweats wandering around in Walmart have no idea the effect they are having!

There is a saying Every raindrop finds the ground. I think you've just given evidence to that.
Or your wife has some weird dad issues.
One or the other,

Sweat pants are my number one casual wear item in the winter (they truly are as I have a pair on as I type this). Quick, easy and comfortable. Tons of colors for the fashion-minded. Easy to mix and match. Just not understanding the hate for sweatpants. They're versatile too. I just changed the oil and transmission fluid in Ms. Sierra048's Frontier in a pair yesterday.

Where are you buying sweat pants that last that long?

I wear sweats to the gym to lift and as winter pajamas...if I am going to run, I wear long spandex pants to keep my thunder thighs from rubbing together. A friend once said I had legs like oak trunks and I took it as a compliment, they stay pretty much the same size even as my gut gets bigger and smaller. Sitting on gym equipment in shorts doesn't feel right to me and the only shorts I wear anymore are khakis on hot summer days since I gave up road biking.

I rotate two pairs of dark blue sweats for gym wear and they have to be at least ten years old, maybe fifteen...old school super heavy duty units with waist ties that could probably support my full weight. Can't remember where I got them and they don't seem to be branded, not sure if I will be able to find the like when they need to be replaced. Or maybe they will last longer than me?

Could be. There's slobs all over and Regina is no exception.

In all my travels I've noticed Regina and surrounding areas have the highest concentration of people who commonly wear them.

Only time I wear them is to the gym when it's too cold to walk there wearing shorts.

Let me guess, you must be less than 25 years old.

Cable tie might do it. The ratchet block would stop a tied string slipping off and would give you something to push against.

Made it to the Y today and it turns out my gym sweatpants are Nikes...the swoosh is actually pretty small and I had to make a point of looking at them closely to find it.
I'm sure they weren't really cheap, but I've been using them for a long time and they still look pretty good and haven't started falling apart at all.

Get a few pairs of good fitting UnderArmor pants and everyone will think you just burst out of a Crossfit box.
