This UOA report is about 0w20 synthetic "performance" motor oil that Superior Lubricants of Hebron, IN. They sale & distribute via HPLoil.com, and/or 219-996-3460. It's not their "race oil".

This is NOT about any HPL oil that Advanced Lubrication, LLC of Manteno, IL sales & distributes.

The vehicle: our 07 GMC Yukon Denali w/all aluminum 6.2L L92 with 190k miles. It consumes about 1/2 qt per 5000 miles. Makeup oil was the same 0w-20.

This oil has 7400 miles in 153 hrs in 9 mths, mostly hwy miles, averaged 48+ mph and 17+ mpg.

DIC indicates 39% remaining. Modified sump capacity = 11 qts.

I changed the oil and filter when I received these results.

The other results are as follows:
Samples #2 & 3 are the same load of Amsoil ASM 0w-20 with a 1/2 qt of makeup oil added between samples.
Sample #4 is Kirkland 5w-30
Samples #5 is Mobil Delvac1 ESP 5w-30.

What say u?

do you plan on going back to the Amsoil ASM?
No. The oil has been changed to 5 qts Mobil1 FS 0w-40 Euro 5, and 1 qt Valvoline PB "Restore" (high ester) 10w-30.

In 2020 I modified the vehicle so that oil sump capacity would be 11 qts, added and oil cooler, and a remote EaBP90 bypass filter setup.

Our use of this vehicle has changed. We no longer use it as often to make the 1000 mile trip each way between our TX and CO homes. So, I removed the mods and put it back together stock. The mods weren't as effective at increasing oci as I had hoped for. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

Stock sump capacity is once again 6 qts. Oil filter is a Fram Ultra XG10060.

I'll post pics of the filters soon. There was a lot of chunky carbon in the bottoms of both and the pleats of the full flow.

Looks good. Vis is OK. 7500 oci.

I like the ASM UOA among the results you shared. Not sure what all that moly is really doing for you. I don't know much about this particular brand.

I must be missing something. That is a lot of iron. Nobody commented so…
OP would most likely need a few OCIs to see a “true” number, as changing chemistries often doesn’t help at all, especially when one is trying to “read the tea leaves” and estimate wear from a UOA which is not the correct tool.

If you dig into some of the other brands -> Mobil 1 changes with UOAs following the M1 change, most will note an “increase” in Fe, which is most likely due to some of the older deposits in an engine being freed up and therefore ending up in the filter/sample. It’s not that M1 “causes” more wear; it’s really good stuff. It’s much more likely that some levels of ANs & esters in M1 are liberating iron from deposits in the engine. After 3-4 OCIs with the cleaning oil, iron drops off, usually lower than before. 👍🏻

Not just this OCI, across the board. I’m aware of chemical reactions from oil to oil, but thank you for restating that.

I’m just very surprised at the iron numbers all the way across the report. And that nobody seems to be questioning this.

That’s why I asked if I missed something.

Lawd, you and I agree on something! LOL! Yes, iron is high.

1. 167,440 mile sample: 10.10ppm/1000 miles
2. 173,800 mile sample: 12.03ppm/1000 miles
3. 180,435 mile sample: 5.93ppm/1000 miles
4. 182,800 mile sample: 7.53ppm/1000 miles
5. 190,200 mile sample: 9.19ppm/1000 miles

Samples 3 and 4 are the only ones that look somewhat decent, and they are both from the same run of AMSOIL.

My wife's HEMI that you wanted me to run 20W-50 in produces 3.69ppm/1000 miles in comparison.
