Had some time to re-arrange my garage today after a good long Thanksgiving night. To entertain the mundane time down there I have quite a few of these laying around which almost all I have been given free from AutoZone 20 dollar rewards and oil change bundles. They used to be a bit taller comparable to the Fram 3600 many years ago. The made in china cans are almost identical to dimensions to the Toyota D3 filter as they both use the same 73mm x 14 flute wrench size. I figured why not see how good these look inside since its pretty much the best lines of filter you can get there without breaking the bank.
Took quite a bit of time to cut open, the can is thick and pretty hard to flex with fingers. Center tube shots show there's a metal crimp seen in one of the holes holding sealing the media.
Silicone anti-drainback valve, center tube holes. You can see the media is crimped from the inside than out, which explains the double sealing media seam on the outside.
Counted 56+2 pleat in a total of 58, very well evenly spaced. One nice detail I like about this filter is the bypass valve is actually a hard rubber which guarantees a good seal compared to the S6607 cut opened a while back which is metal to metal. Took quite a bit of push to get it to open with a screwdriver. Filtering Element endcap to endcap length is about 2-5/8" compared to 2" at the S6607 filtering element and larger overall diameter.
Probably one of the most liked feature out of these is the silicone gasket, not much filters out there in the market has them and are still very pliable after 2x 5K mile oil changes. I usually salvage these to repurpose after the filter has served its rated filtration life.
Quality wise, no complaints. There are better and worse filters out there in the 10 dollar price bracket, take your pick.
