Red Line D4 ATF vs. Royal Purple MAX ATF?

Hi,

wondering if anyone has used both of them and which one do you prefer more? just like to know which one will provide better protection and last longer?

I have only used Redline D4, and currently have 223,000 miles on my original transmission that is still operating like new.

I have run the RP transmission fluid many times and it is great. Never ran the RL D4 but RL makes great fluids in general. I would say either would be a good choice as long as they are spec'd for your specific application needs. I would pick the RP over the RL just because it is my preferred brand but again either would be good.

I am sure both of these ATF's are very good, but by looking at the TDS I was unable to conclude anyone of them being superior over another (links posted in the original post)

The only factor in RP MAX ATF seemed better was in having little higher flash point than RL D4 ATF, but they both have same pour points & both are full synthetics....can someone perhaps tell by looking at the specs which one has little more edge..please?

RP offers some significant limitations in applications. The RP link above states "Please Note: Max ATF is not recommended or an approved warranty replacement for: Ford Type F, Ford Mercon SP, Ford Mercon LV, GM Dexron VI, Mercedes Benz NAG-2, Toyota WS, Volvo 5 Speeed. Max ATF is not for use in any CVT applications or AWD units unless listed above."

No Dexron, Mercon, or ATF+ fluid can ever also meet Ford Type F because Type F has completely different set of friction modifiers.

Mercon SP has an extreme set of AW additives not seen in other ATF's.

Dexron VI, NAG-2, Mercon LV, and Toyota WS are extremely low viscosity fluids. 6CST at 100C or less. In order to be good in Mercon V and ATF+4, viscosity be minimum ~7CST at 100C.

Redline made D6 ATF to fit the needs of DexVI, NAG-2, and Toyota... Or at least it is supposed to work. I never heard a testimonial of it being used in such a transmission, or to replace DexIII in an older transmission.

I have used D4 for going on Ten years in many different applications ( one that specs T-IV as well.) I love the stuff. My suburban is going on 200K and shifts like a dream. I cant comment on RP as I have never used it.

How is that significant(list below of what you can use it in replace of)? What they do not recommend it for is a lot less then they recommend it can be used for. I have used Royal Purple and it has worked great for me. I can't compare as I have never used the Red Line though.
