This seems like one of those "perceived value" things to me. You expect it to be a certain price, so it went up in price and now you feel it's "too expensive" or not worth it. Looking at the PQIA test, the 5W30 looks like it compares favorably to some of the other "big name" synthetics, regardless of price. UOA's are pretty much useless as an oil selection tool, and your finger viscometer typically aren't that accurate. It's no more or less "watery" than other oils of the same grade.
My guess is that if the oil was previously $5.00 more and was suddenly reduced by $2.00, people would be going on about what a good deal it is...
