Back to the OP's subject; I've been using the Castrol Edge C3 in my 3 liter OM642 and find it is quite robust. The price almost double overnight, so I switched to Castrol Edge LL @ $24 per 5 liter.

PP Euro L is even cheaper and, IMO, excellent oil.
