What oil would you recommend. I would like to get the most life out of my car as is possible.

1. Toyota Corolla 2002
2. API SJ 5-30 is recommended
3. Live in Kansas City
4. I drive pretty easy
5. My drive is short, 3 miles each way, with multiple stop lights.
6. Despite the bad reputation these engines have for leaking oil, mine is always full when it gets changed.

I want to start doing my own oil changes and am wondering what oil you would recommend.

Maxlife 5w-30 and a Wix, NAPA gold, or Toyota filter.

Change it every 5,000 miles.

I believe these engines were known more for burning oil, but in any case it appears you don't need to worry about that.

Considering you don't burn/lose any oil currently. I'd recommend you keep doing what you've been doing. PYB is a very good oil and 5k would be no sweat for it.

No need to change, 5k OCI's with a quality filter will be just fine

Try to take the vehicle out for a 10 mile+ run once a week. Continue what your doing with oil & filter and I agree with the 5K oil change. Ed

+1

Keep using what you are using/doing. Plus do what Eddie says below.

All of these replies are great advice to the OP. As some have said, just continue to do as you are currently doing.

The 2016 models are out and you are discussing ways to get the maximum life out of a 14 year old beater?

What comes next is more often than not...is an Amsoil infomercial.
