There is no way that pure nitrogen will leak out any differently than 'plain' air!

And I am still laughing at XS650's saying: "I even fill my tires with 78% N2 mix, how much could I hate it? I like that stuff so much that I literally breath it every day."

Priceless thread.

Suggest that you do some personal research first. I have done this on 3 vehicles and stand by the 1 PSI per annum loss in pressure.

If you don't believe it, try it for yourself before posting further comments. See you in 12 months!

Critique of the web page:

Statement #1) Less pressure loss - Agree

Statement #2) Cooler running temperature - Disagree. See Dr. Walter Waddell's presentation to the California Air Resources Board June 4, 2008. I've copied the pertinent slide here:

http://www.barrystiretech.com/nitrogeninflation.html

Statement #3) Reduced Pressure build-up - Disagree. Again see Dr. Waddell's presentation.

Statement #4) Reduced corrosion - agree, but as is pointed out, this is a problem in mining and truck applications.

I am extremely disappointed in Toyo for presenting bad information - which just goes to show ya! Even people who should know better make mistakes!

Who says this is bad information? Some oil company hack?

Sorry, I will take the views of a major tyre manufacturer over an Oil company hack any day.

The Nissan GTR comes with tyres nitrogen filled as standard, all commercial passenger aircraft tyres are filled with Nitrogen to reduce pressure fluctuations and reduce freezing. The list goes on and on:

One thing I can tell ya, if you REALLY believe it then it's true... for you!

Neat thing is we all got choices. Just don't try and convert us.

We get to make our own choice.

I tend to be driven by data. Dr. Waddell actually presented data - Toyo didn't. Needless to say, I found Dr. Waddell's information much more reliable.

Plus, his presentation lines up with every other lab study I've seen where nitrogen inflation is directly compared to air. The only studies I have seen where there appears to be an advantage to nitrogen have been fleet studies where it is unclear whether or not they actually had controlled the inflation pressure before they made the change to nitrogen. Needless to say, those fleets studies do not line up with the lab results, so I tend to discount them.

Agree 100%

The same applies to you!

Grip and handling are improved, fuel economy is excellent, and it'll even whiten your teeth!

The 'only drawback' is that the most stable isotope, R222, has a half life of about 4 days! As the gas decays, various radioactive isotopes of Polonium, lead, and other fun stuff will accumulate on the inside of your tire, while the inflation pressure drops by ~70% per week! Funny, the Radon store never mentioned the need for daily top-offs and lead foil underwear!
