Night at the Casino

I was in NV and a friend went and put $20 split four ways on the roulette table. Won first spin. Then put money again and hit a number on the second or third. Walked away with like $360 in three balls (?), then we walked.

TIME: 1986
SETTING: Gulfstream Park in Florida (horses). note: 'Twas a special "Pan-American event" 10 race day
PLAYERS: My friend who knows the ponies and who wrote regularly in major newspapers' sports sections and me. I know nothin'.

OCCURRENCES: He walked off to gamble for real. I drank beer and stood in awe of the lavish Caribbean suits. Big $ in attendance.
I tried to read my Racing Form up-side-down and because I know nothin' I gave the paper away.

Come the 10th race I was bored out of my mind and glanced over a guy's shoulder to look at HIS Racing Form.
I garnered an appropriate dirty look. I apologized and explained my position as a pure rookie. We bonded.

He recommended the winner of the 10th race. I put a $5er on the nag(?) and IT WON!!!!!

My friend lost his shirt who actually phoned his wife for $$$$$-NO GO ON THAT. He found me.
He said, "Let's get out of here" real angrily. I was the driver so I had to say........

"Be with you in a minute. I have to cash out this winning ticket!"

He howled.....probably in pain.

To OP and Reddy45: How was that?

Spent a few days at the Excalibur in Vegas recently. I never play slots (my wife does though), but on the last evening I sat at a Flaming "7" Double $1 machine and threw $20 in it. I started by betting the max $3 per spin thinking it would be over soon. I hit $300 three times and was about to quit, but decided to keep playing.

About 45 minutes later, I hit two 7's and a double which is a $1000 pay out. Had it been two flaming 7's and a double it would have been a progressive payout of about $10,000.

Anyway, I immediately cashed out and for my $20, I ended up with about $1,880 or $1,860 to the good. Gave my wife $500 and gave most of the rest to Georgia Gun Shop for two HK VP9SK pistols.

Best win I have ever had while playing slots.

A friend of mine goes every two years with $1000 - it lasts a little over a week

THAT.... is his "vacation" (single guy, in Late 60's)

He goes, stays in a nice hotel, sse some nice shows, eats some amazing food, and comes home $1000 less rich than he was.

The Ameristar is a great casino. I got a room for $79 after Thanksgiving. Took $100 lost most of it went to another casino the next day and won most of it back.

Slots give you a lot more back than playing a lotto or scratch game but in the long run you're going to get 90-95 cents back for every dollar you spend. Personally I only play 'em about once a year, start with about $20 and feel fortunate if I can nurse an hour or so out of that twenty. There's no such thing as luck and I don't have enough skill to play table games.

Not much of a gambling man, But My little brother won $10K at Remington casino in OKC few years ago

I was at his place went he got home with the cash, He spoiled his baby daughter(my niece) fancy crib, toys, $$$ Car seat and bought a used Camry.

His GF at time wanted a "kiss of death ring" , Lets just say she's not around anymore THANK GOD !!

He did give me $100 bill lol

Live about 1 1/2 hours from Foxwoods/Mohegan Sun, wife and I take a $27.00 roundtrip bus ride there, get $10 food coupon/$15 slot play, so it costs $2 for the trip. High Stakes Bing costs anywhere from $15 to $25 on average, and if you don't buy "extra" games, you have 4 to 5 hours of gambling, food delivered to the table for 10 bucks each. Play the slots after, we use the $15 and once that's done we walk around, back on the bus ! Cheap day if you can resist the urge.

I play Texas hold em with some friends about 4-6 times a year, mostly it's an excuse to get together and be guys.
Last time I was able to make it, I mentioned that I hadn't been in on a pot in a couple of years...I didn't really care too much, but it was a bit frustrating.
Of course, I was in on every pot that night and was the top dog on two of them (we usually split 2 or 3 ways).
Probably helped that the most accomplished gambler in the group was not there, he reads me like a book and will even be rude enough to announce, "Oh, you're holding Anna Kournikova" or whatever to the group at times. This is a friendly game and I think he's just way outta line...like it a lot better when he doesn't show up. Only $10-20 per person per pot so not worth getting into a fight over...and I don't really dislike him as a person, he just has to show off when he's good at something.

This story sounds eerily similar to an experience I had except it was a double date to a local dog racing track. Won enough money to pay for dinner and a few drinks!

Friend of my brother had a bit of a gambling problem and would visit the local casino a few times a year. I don't really know how casinos work but here's the story.

He is in the casino a couple of hours and of course is out of money. He goes to some cash machine in the casino and puts his bank card in and withdraws a couple hundred dollars. He then takes that cash to another machine where he buys chips with that cash. He's standing there and bells and horns start sounding and he's confused, thinks maybe he's won something. Next thing ya know security surrounds him and hauls him away to a secure room where he is questioned/accused of using counterfeit money. They hold him for hours until they review their security cameras a see he is using the very cash dispensed to him by their own bank machine. Eventually he is let go but banned from the casino for life.

Makes you wonder about the whole business.

I haven't been to a casino in a while, and I don't seem to have the luck that I've witnessed other people have.

Like the time I went to one of the casinos in Joliet when they still made you get on a boat. It was Presidents Day weekend and the place was pretty crowded so I had to wait for a machine. A couple of rows over I hear some commotion and I see that a woman hit the jackpot on her machine and while she's waiting for the workers to verify it, I see her wave to a friend of hers and hold up two fingers. About 5 minutes later the machine next to her opens up so I sat down and within maybe another 5 minutes she hits the jackpot again. Since she was stuck waiting again I mentioned that I saw her a while ago holding up two fingers and did this mean she hit her third jackpot? Sure enough, she said that she'd been at the machine maybe 45 minutes and hit the top jackpot 3 times. These were quarter machines and IIRC, the top jackpot was $1200.

I used to have a house in Elgin and they put one of those casino boats on the river there.
I guess people didn't understand right away about being on a "cruise" for a fixed period of time and one guy got ticked about having to stay on the boat despite being out of money or just being done with gambling. He jumped off the boat and swam back to shore...and got arrested! It was illegal to leave the boat during the "cruise".

An Indian Tribe bought my "farm" and within a few years, it predictably had a hotel and casino on it.

I think this type of thing is senseless; it's even more senseless that in most parts of the country, some groups are allowed a monopoly on this.

Anyone should be able to get in on that action, including the online people. Why should you have to dress to get fleeced, when you can do it in your PJ's from the house?

I love the boardwalk casinos in Atlantic City. Cheapest rooms at the beach anywhere near here. You don't have to gamble to get discounted room rates, just get one or their players cards and use it when booking your room. Or get on the casinos email list and wait for a sale. I pay less for a nice casino hotel room in Atlantic City than I would be paying for a not so great motel room in Ocean City, MD. Plus if the weather doesn't cooperate, I've got more indoor options in Atlantic City. I also like it that there are less children around in Atlantic City.

My Wife won a little over $50,000 back in 2006 playing Keno. After that We rode the Harley up to Tahoe for a week long vacation. She won $5,000 more playing a poker machine while we ate lunch. Then I won $5,000 on the very same machine the next morning. Casino floor manager said he had never seen that happen before. It was a great year considering the fact that we don't gamble that much at all.

Seen a few stories on the news where someone has hit a gigantic payout (like $500K+) on some casino machines and then the casino claims the machine was "broken" to try and get out of paying the winner. Sleazy business for sure.
