Hi guys, I'm new here to BITOG. I love 2-stroke engines just for the pure enjoyment of mixing the gas and oil along with their engine sound. I luckily found a brand new Lawn Boy 10550 at a local small engine shop. My question is, the cap says 32:1, which i'm sure will do just fine, I'm going to run Klotz R50 which is a 50w synthetic race oil. Will I be ok if I mix 40:1 and maybe experiment with 50:1. I didn't know if anyone had any experience with lawn boy 2-strokes. Look forward to the replys.

What does Klotz say?

As much as I'm a 100:1 nut, if the oil company doesn't recommend it and the engine manufacturer doesn't....that's like 3 strikes...

As you can imagine, klotz doesn't list a ratio recommendation for a lawnmower on any of their products. The closest thing would be an air cooled atv, for that Klotz recommends 32:1, Watercooled 40:1. Mx and dirt track watercooled 60-125cc 32:1 Hmmm....Maybe I should try 32:1 first and see how that goes, would hate to damage my new 2-smoker. BTW Pablo, I'm a big fan of Amsoil in 4-strokes. I just never really like there series 2000 2-stroke stuff in my PWC's. I run Amsoil racing 20w-50 in my race car and their 10w-40 motorcyle in my little Honda CRF50.

You need a mixing bottle for the Gas and Oil. $3 at Academy sports or $4 at your local outboard dealer. It has a 32:1 line on it. It's 3.79 oz. per gallon.

I really like my Honda 190cc 4 stroke.

The only mower I would rather have is your new Lawnboy. You are a blessed man.

The local Lawnboy dealer told me that once broken in,(couple tanks of 32:1) the engine will tollerate 40:1 and even 50:1 if a good quality synthetic is used.
Convetional 2 stroke oil, stick with the 32 or maybe 40:1.
The only Lawnboy that needs(as in NEEDS) 32:1 is those older models with the gear self propelled units.
100:1 scares me.

With 32:1 obviously everything is getting plenty of oil. The mower is a brand new '04 or '05, lawn boy told me they quit puting out the 2-strokes in '05. Alot of newer 2-strokes say 50:1, now we know that is mostly to satisfy EPA. My point is 32:1 just seems like it's somewhat chocking the engine with oil?!?!

Don't jack with the mfg. recommendation. Just get the oil mixing bottle and mix away.

I have been running Amsoil Saber Pro at 75:1 in my Duraforce for 4 or 5 years. I intend to run this unit for 25 years. It runs very well. This is not a recommendation, just letting you know that you won't seize solid at 50:1.

Hmmm good to know. I plan on running several tanks at 32:1 then see how 40:1 runs. I fired it up the other night and honestly thought the engine would sound more crisp. Seemed like it was a little rich?!?! Who knows, this is my first lawn boy 2-stroke.

The exhaust has a bit of a "burble" to it. They are actually set up to run fairly lean. I've seen on other boards where people have drilled out the main jet because it can't be replaced. I have never felt the urge to do this. The only thing I have done is turned up the idle. You are going to love the light weight and power of this motor.

I know I can't wait to try it out, should be next week. It's rained here in MO a lot and will continue hit or miss showers throughtout the week. I tried out the self propel on my drive way, works very nice! The smell of Klotz coming from the exhaust has me smiling.
