Blackstone's Comments.
DAVID: This makes two good reports for your Saab. The longer oil run yielded higher iron, which is normal
since that metal tracks most directly with time on the oil. The other metals stayed about as steady as you
could hope for. The only questionable aspect is sodium. Mobil 1 doesn't use it as additive. It can show a little
coolant, but this much still isn't enough to say for sure since no potassium showed up. Watch your coolant
level just to be safe. The TBN was 2.0 showing active additive left. Try 14,000 miles on the next oil as long
as you're not losing coolant.

Blackstone's comments on first assay.
DAVID: This first sample from your Saab V-6 Turbo looks great. Averages show what normal wear should look like after ~2,500 miles on the oil. You ran your oil a lot longer, yet metals are all within the average range. That's an excellent indication your engine is in great shape. The sodium that turned up is probably oil additive from a past oil, though it could also show coolant so we put a ? in the antifreeze category. We doubt any problems exist since wear is so low, though. Fuel is fine at 0.8% and the TBN of 3.1 shows active additive left (1.0 is low). Try 12,000 miles next."

So what is up with my sodium levels?

Yeah. I just looked up my UOA's on my '06, which is the identical engine, and iron was 12 and 18. Hmmm....

It's that horrible, horrible "Mobile 1"

Does this engine use direct injection? It seems direct injection gasoline engines often have higher iron in UOAs than engines with multi-port injection.

Yeah, they don't see that it was run for 12,000 miles, LOL!

No it doesn't however I do have an aggressive "custom tune" on it that get it up to 320 hp, from 280 hp., and 405 lbs. of torque, up from 295 lbs.

My '06 had a less aggressive tune however I drove it much more aggressively...
