What are you driving? The Castrol FST is A3 rated and has a HTHSV of 3.4-3.6 while the M1 3.1. If you have a diesel or car the Castrol has spec's for then use it. It looks very stout. If you want better fuel economy and longer Cat. life use the M1.

The Castrol has numerous LL approvals. Not saying it is better, but depending on the application, might be a better choice.

+1

The Edge 5w30 you have over there in Australia is not the same as the one here. It's closer to our GC 0w30 than it is to our Edge Titanium 5w30. I actually like yours better, but it really depends on the application as others have pointed out. If your application requires high HT/HS oil, then this Castrol is your ticket. If it does not, then you're just unnecessarily lowering your fuel economy by running it.

I am driving a 1996 GM Holden V6 3800 something like a Buick V6 3800 L36 equivalent engine.

Currently running M1 5w50 ($74 AUD 5L) mixed with M1 5w30 ($85 AUD 5L) to make an M1 5w40, as the M1 5w40 grade is not available locally.

Then I came across the Mobil technical write where the M1 oils are now essentially Visom Group 3+ oils which are OK.

If am paying big bucks for using M1 Group 3 oils I thought I might as well try the Castrol 5w30 ($68AUD 5L) so I sought input from my BITOG buddies.

Yeah I know the Buick 3800 engines are basically bullet proof and can run with Canola Oile etc but I have always been fussy.

Well I wouldn't assume all M1 grades are just Visom. Some may be PAO, some blends of Viscom/PAO. Visom is also not your ordinary Grp III.
