Here is the MANN HU 719/6X cartridge filter from my sister's 2013 2.5L Jetta. The filter was in use for 11,000 miles, a little longer than I would have liked (she goes over on oil changes constantly) but it held up okay.

If it is anything like Mercedes, the oil filter housing has a "nozzle" that inserts inside the filter to provide support.
Different it is on the cap like that.
There is just such a variety of systems, some have it built into the filter, some in the housing, some on the cap, some a combination, some have parts that click into other parts.

I do like that the housing has a drain valve on the bottom. It allows you to drain out the entire filter before removing it, and makes for practically zero mess.
