The light bulb is keeping the valve train warm, but it's really not doing anything to keep the oil in the sump warm. If you definately see a difference just due to the light bulb, then that's a hint to the root cause.

I'm thinking it's a mechanical clearance issue that's affected by temperature. Is the valve clearance adjustable on this dngine, or does it really have hydraulic components in the valve train to keep the proper clearance?

My old Audi had a bit of it, but I suspect the previous owner simply used GTX PCMO for the 12,000 km severe service intervals.
 
I dont know exactly how Im occasionally replying to post incorrectly. Usually my replies follow the post I respond to but this and another one end up somewhere else and not following that thread. make sense?
