Update: I tried water injection through the rubber air intake hose after the air filter but before the intake manifold. I used an atomizer to turn the distilled water into a mist as I fed it into the engine. Kept the engine running at different speeds all this time I was spraying the water. Must have sprayed 400 squirts total over 25 minutes. The engine sometimes decreased in RPM when I was giving the water mist. I let the RPM recover 20 seconds before I gave the next dose. Finally I got cold feet and stopped as I feared I might hydrolock the engine. Kept running the engine another 10 minutes before I turned it off. Next day I got the scheduled engine oil change at a gas station.
Sadly, the exercise didn't help any. At the next fill up, I had 1/5 tank of premium and filled her up with regular gas, and the knock was back. At each time the gas gauge read 3/4, I filled up with premium again. After 3 weeks of doing this, the knock is gone (again). Bummer.
