Have you ever mentioned or considered talking to the parts store(s) about this and see if they'd be interested in "helping" as well ? If anything, donate some parts or sell them to you at discounted prices ?

I had something like that happen to my f250. It's not used much and I'm down to one original caliper.
 
I really do not think the purpose of this thread was to criticize the mom and her circumstances.

To the OP: good on you for helping. Is that a destroyed piston?
