1996 Toyota 4Runner: 130,000 miles, uses no oil in its 3,000 mile OCI.
1995 Ferrari F355B: 45,000 miles, uses no oil in its 3,000 OCI
Interesting note on the F355B: This car has seen 4,000 miles on race tracks under racing conditions. I used to think I had a moderate oil consumption issue (of around 1 Qt every 1,300 miles). Last week I did a 2,500 mile vacation starting with 1,200 miles on the oil and the dry sump at max (1 Qt above the normal operating level; 2 Qts above min). I checked the oil every day. For the first 1,200 miles the car consumed 1 Qt of oil down to the normal operating point int he dry sump. THEN the oil consumption stopped! and the next 1,300 miles was doen with no oil consumption (measurable) whatsoever (well, mabe a cup).
It seems that the dry sump de-aireator, when the sump is over its mid point, allows oil mist in near vaporous form to be consumed by the vaccum in the intake. Once at the desired sump level, this excessive consumption goes away and oil is consumed by the normal processes, which in my engine are close to no consumption.
