I can only say what his dad told me that he was one of 8 in a class of 175 that made E-3. Not arguing though.

Maybe this helps.

What likely happened his Company Commander promoted him for meritorious service during basic and there wasn't enough time to have his blues changed. I was at Ft. Leonard Wood last year and it was a 10 day wait for dry cleaning.

E3 is possible out of basic training but you have to enlist for 6 years, that was for USAF.... I’m sure other branches have similar enlistment / rank advancement. 6 years also get you a much bigger $$$ enlistment bonus.


In the Army E-4 is possible upon entry. I know because I was in Army basic training as a 34 year old prior service Staff Sergeant at Ft. Jackson in 2015.
