Excellent! I'm sure you and he are very proud!

The ribbon is the National Defense Service Medal. It has been awarded to service members since 9/11/2001, for their service.
The medal is a marksmanship medal. There are three levels: Marksman, Sharpshooter, Expert. I assume it is for the M16, since that is what they are trained onduring basic training. I can't tell which level he was awarded.

Let me add my congratulations to him for his successful completion. His advanced training will be less stressful and just as rewarding.

+1 on the ribbon - we all get one (no special criteria)

The badge appears to be for Sharpshooter. The label beneath it is the weapon, which isn't visible. I tried for Expert, but could never get it. I blame it on the glasses...

Also, that insignia appears to be for E-2, PFC. If he just graduated boot camp, he's unlikely to be LCPL

I can only say what his dad told me that he was one of 8 in a class of 175 that made E-3. Not arguing though.

Thanks all. I am just happy for him much more than I am proud
Maybe this helps.

E3 is possible out of basic training but you have to enlist for 6 years, that was for USAF.... I’m sure other branches have similar enlistment / rank advancement. 6 years also get you a much bigger $$$ enlistment bonus.

If it is any consolation, I had nephew who was somewhat of a "troubled" teenager.

After high school he went into a special ops military group.

After he came out of final training he was a completely different individual.

E1 Private

E2 PFC

E3 Lance Cpl

I don’t know if making E3 out of boot camp is possible; I just know that’s it’s atypical. His SDB’s show E2 PFC.

Kinda besides the point here, though. He should be proud of his accomplishment, no matter his rank.

Congrats on him, hope he fully uses his money/grants the service gives towards college or trait school. Either way, the service will look great on his future resume.

Yea Mola. He was a product of Mom and dad fighting over custody. My daughter finally lost. He went down to Fla. and was getting into trouble. He was flunking out of school in 11th grade. My daughter got him back, got him into a Christian Academy (Lewisburg (W.V.) Baptist Academy). SHE never gave up on him. That turned him aroung. That he tried college..didn't work out. He got to be friends who were in the Nat. Guard. And you see the result.

Congrats to him! It's a long road ahead.

You are correct. All one has to do is go the the Army's website and they can see what the rank structure is. But as far as the young man we are taking about, congratulations. As a old paratrooper, I say go Airborne.

That's great, you can be proud of them both! The military is a good place to be for kids like that.

I am. My daughter (his mom) went to boot camp summer between 11th and 12th grade. She completed it despite having a hairline crack in her hip.

Some "Privates" enter basic training as Specialists.

Al congrats to your grandson.
