Interesting that you paint the Romani people with such a broad brush.
The crime families are a distinct minority within the Romani population.
Also, a good portion of the home repair scams are in fact run by the minority crime families within the "Irish Traveller" population. Although, they are also mistakenly called gypsies because of their earlier tendency for a nomadic lifestyle. They are genetically Irish and not in the least related to the Romani.
That is as totally bogus as using the Mafia to paint all Italians as criminals.
The 'Irish Traveller' community used to be called TINKERS before it become 'politicaly incorrect'...they are thought to be of Irish heritage but live a nomadic lifestyle....travelling from one area to another. There are also 'gypsies' aka 'Roma' in Ireland, Scotland and Britain and it is hard to figure out who is who (although the tinkers tend to look more Irish...ie fair skin, freckles etc...)...It is reputed that they scam by collecting welfare benefits in several different counties (the equivalent of our states) and are known for scamming, stealing and other nefarious activities....they used to 'tinker' with pots and pans and the like but now just seem to live off the dole....
PS: In the old days they had horse drawn coaches and let their horses graze on other people's land....in recent years they are known to travel by Toyota Hiace vans...
PS: The poor reputation of the tinkers and gypsies is well earned....but they certainly aren't Romanians....
