Hi Gang,
We've seen a bunch of these but always interesting to look. The old phrase "move along folks nothing to see here" comes to mind. The Tough Guard was used for about 4k on my Jeep, the orange can version PH3600 was only run about 500 miles as an experiment, no surprise Jeep didn't care for it. Not sure why construction is so close to the Tough Guard 3600 which runs/starts great for me. The PH3600 does confirm what I've noted before, all orange cans are not created equal and the 3600's are among the better ones media wise.
Onto the guts!
The subjects, the TG came from Wally's the orange can AAP.
Comparison, already cut. Sorry, I often cut well before I get around to taking pics I've had these two quite a while.
Base plates appear identical, other than the Tough Guards visible red silicone ADBV.
Elements out, they look pretty good. Endcaps were fine but they extend close to the end and I got into both of them a bit with the hacksaw.
The Tough Guard had 46 pleats, the Extra Guard had 40, the most I think I've ever counted in an orange can.
This tends to be the "ugly" side particularly with Frams. The Tough Guard especially didn't look real impressive here compared to others I've seen, the orange can actually was more uniform near the pleats. No media tears or compromises that I could find though. The TG used a crimped metal seam and the orange can was simply glued together.
Bypasses out, also appeared identical and intact. Takes a fair amount of pressure to open them again we've seen these before nothing surprising here.
Hope you enjoyed the filter porn!
