Wow bud. You really don't do to good with comprehension skills do you? At AAP a Mobil 1 M1-108A is $14.99, Purolator BOSS PBL14612 is $13.99 and Fram Titanium FS6607 is $14.99. I stated that the pricing was inline with other products they carry of the same 'tier'. I never once said that it is 'worth' $15. But, I also use to work at AAP and I KNOW people come in and buy those filters at regular price. Not everyone cares to shop around to save $5 on a filter.

Right now AAP has a Mobil 1 oil filter and Mobil 1 EP deal for $35.99 right now. That actually is not too bad.

That's an IF

We're talking about filter price vs filter price

$15 bucks vs $9 bucks

Which one you gona buy from ?

I'll get the 9$ Ultra and not even step inside of Advance "Too Much" Auto Parts

I agree. I wouldn't have any problems with installing the filter on my car, I am still just suspect of 20k mile filters but I think that's just a me thing. ha.

If AAP combos this filter Fram Titanium say with Mobil 1 EP for 35.99 ... That actually is cheaper than Walmart... $11 Mobil 1 oil filter and Mobil 1 EP for $28... Or if Mobil 1 EP is on sale for $25.58.... then the price is equal between the two...

Right now AAP has a Mobil 1 oil filter and Mobil 1 EP deal for $35.99 right now. That actually is not too bad.

I'd bet good money.... That combo will be done at AAP... Next month or the month after...

Again... I'd bet good money... It will be paired with a oil in a combination deal...

And actually they do it now with a Mobil 1 oil filter that cost $14.99 for my car.... And I can go by AAP and get that and Mobil 1 EP for cheaper than Walmart... Point being... They do it now... With a filter that is also $14.99 outside of their combination deal.

I sometimes buy a filter by itself...

But that is at Napa... And that is at 8.99 for the Napa Gold 57356.

But for a combination deal at AAP... That is reasonable... $35.99 for either a Mobil 1 or a Fram Titanium both which cost $14.99 outside of the combo deal...

I agree, give it a few months and it'll be a combination deal like all the other oils/filters.

We're not talking about a dam filter oil combo here !

We're talking about the price of a single filter

How hard is that ?

With Fram Ultra I used Penzzoil Ultra for an Ultra oil change.

I guess with Fram Titanium I will have to switch to Castrol with Titanium, or Kendall with Titanium so that my engines are as strong as titanium and don't blow up from an oil and oil filter being incompatible.

How hard is it for you to get.,. That 99 percent of people going to buy the combination deal ??

lol.gif

I would... If... I wanted to... Because it's a ok deal.

Most people typically buy both at the same time...

I do... Like 85 percent of the time.

I have purchased a filter by itself... Though not a standard operating procedure there.

Nope.
The Ultra is a full synthetic media, the Titanium is a synthetic blend with wire mesh and metal endcaps. It is a step below the Ultra, and a step above the ToughGuard.

They are both rated at 99%+ and both are rated for up to 20,000 miles. So the media can't be much different. Could be Fram has a typo on one or the other.

Hopefully this is Trico's toehold in AAP that will eventually lead to Fram replacing Purolator there! The Titanium is kind of overpriced, but the Ultras never sold very well at AAP (when they carried them), so the price will come down.

I don't think so. I really think the Titanium is ToughGuard media placed on an Ultra framework (mesh backing and metal end caps).
I think it is just a marketing design change to have this AAP exclusive that is different than any Fram available elsewhere.

I do like the entire can being coated, I really liked the old Purolator made AAP filters that were like that. It was a very grippy surface (even better than the Fram coating, not sure if it is different than what is used on their regular cans).

I would have no issue using one, and if they have it with a good combo deal with a stacked rebate, I would get one.

It's probably a blend of two different synthetic media just like the Ultra. New people at Trico who may not be that familiar with oil filter jargon could see it that way and be technically correct in saying it.

The Fram patent page listed on the box may show a patent for something like those inlet holes. back in 2004 aopx. I suppose quicker flow through the narrow hole side and slower through the wider sets up a flow pattern. I don't know why any of that matters as the outlet pipe is the determining restriction and the oil pump is positive displacement as many say here.

Yep, just like louvers ... those inlet holes aren't going to have any influence on flow, except maybe reduce the delta-p across the filter slightly because there's more flow area. With a PD oil pump, the flow volume going in is the same as the flow volume going out ... regardless of how the flow pattern is happening inside the filter.
