Not until I looked at this site did I realize that I am very lucky for not having all my motors explode because I've been running Fram filters for decades now. But I understand what people are getting at with their construction and all. Orange can of death, thats funny.

So what are peeple's opinion and experience with the Fram HP-1? Seems to have good construction, and a high ADBV number. IS there a better choice for a severe duty application?

The biggest difference is the burst strength of the can. The elements construction is typical Fram orange can looking.

There no good, that is why they use them on most of the top fuel dragsters and funny cars.

What are you doing that you feel requires a special filter? The HP series, as with the "R" series from Wix, are sieves. The poorest level of filtration available on the market. They're only applicable for race engines to catch big chunks. The engine wears out way too soon to worry about longer term abrasives and the oil is changed out frequently.

The only street application I've ever heard them used on were the 1970 Boss 302 and the 1970.5 Z28. Apparently, in this head to head showdown, stock filters were bulging and blowing up.

The HP-1 is a simple Ford filter.

If this is for a truck/pickup, then just get a bigger filter.

Not super fine, but the velocity should be so low that anything that can be filtered will most likely drop out of suspension every time you shut it down long enough.

Or get a B2-HPG from Baldwin. The high performance glass media should work well for you.

If you want to get real fancy. The EaO26 is a wizbang version of the 51773

But they work just fine. NOTHING WRONG WITH A FRAM FILTER.
