This filter was off of a 2019 GMC ACADIA at work. Done at Wal Mart and had Pennzoil Platinum in for 7,500 miles. Real ugly looking to say least. Put a PZ-173 Purolator made filter on and Safety Kleen 5w30 oil in.

As much of a Fram fan boy as I is; I’d expect a little more from a Extra Guard. That’s just me.

BUT; with Fram cheapening the ULTRA, how do we know they aren’t cheapening the extra guard and tough guard?

We should absolutely expect a good looking filter that functions well. This is certainly a quality control issue but how widespread & how frequently we'll see this will come soon enough if it's bad. I would hope the QC is better on the higher cost filters. I'm fortunate that my truck takes a cartridge filter so I can simply open the box first to check them before I buy. I wonder if you can send these photo's to fram & make them aware of certain filters if you keep seeing repeat issues? If we don't complain then they may not know about it. Especially, when a good bit of these filters are still in a metal can form. Thanks

We are at a point where it seems there are less than desirable points across all filter manufacturers. Wondering if the work force issues have also crept into automotive filter manufacturing? Not enough quality control folks lurking about? I can’t say that I’m always using one brand of filter however I have been sticking to Delco for my truck. My thinking is if they are good enough for a Caddy or Corvette they are good enough for my beater truck. Heck I used K-Mart filters back in the day…

I like em for 5k and would be concerned pushing it to the 10k stated on the carton. But I also tend to feel that way about any filter  but I'm a little nutty.

I've lost confidence in Fram. Next filters for me are going to be Napa Gold, they look well made in Whip City Wrencher's videos.

This EG looks pretty ugly. Many past C&Ps of EGs looked much better. Yeay, could be production is getting sloppy as time goes on. Fram needs their manufacturing engineers and QA to keep on top of production.

It is confusing there is videos of metal end caps on their extra guards now but nothing official, I emailed them and no response so not great customer service so far, well over a week now.

Today at Walmart I was checking out oil filters because I am considering switching from AC Delco PF47E so I grabbed the FRAM Extra Guard to see if I could identify any metal end caps, unfortunately I could not verify it. But what shocked me is that metal and what seemed like hard plastic bits were on the threads and by the inlet holes.

In the past I seen videos of rust, I figured it was just a bad batch people got, but now I see this and im thinking nope, clearly quality control problems are happening. I never seen anything like this on my AC Delco filters.

I have to say this has completely steered me away from considering FRAM now.

I can’t find the Purolator equivalent filter I cut and posted. Anyone help? Maybe I’m. Getting old. I went way back to 2019

Yeah, ugly. Wide pleat spacing around the seam pleat significant. Add a bit more media area with more pleats or more uniform spacing throughout and likely a much better outcome. I prefer the first choice. Regardless of rating, think if was going 7500 mi fci I'd use a better filter. That's the thing about to quick lubes, no matter oil used generally stuck with whatever filter they use. Somewhat surprised not a Fram Core, maybe ACC uses EG with synthetic oil.

Thanks for c&p.
